Three Nepali players to participate in the World Taekwondo Championship

Three Nepali players Gyani Chunara, Arun Adhikari and Ranjan Shrestha left for Puebla, Mexico to take part in the 21st World Taekwondo Championships. Gyani Chunara is competing in 57 kg women’s category, Arun Adhikari in 54 kg men’s category while Ranjan Shrestha will compete in 58 kg men’s category at the Championships.

Except for Ranjan, it would a first official international exposure for both Arun & Gyani. Ranjan participated in the 2010 Youth Olympics Games (YOG) in Singapore. Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) had selected the players following their performances in the recently concluded 11th Nepal National Taekwondo Championship held in Pokhara. Apart from winning gold in their respective categories, Arun and Gyani were declared the best players in the 11th Nepal National Taekwondo Championship.

Olympian and South Asian Taekwondo star Deepak Bista is the coach of the team, while the president of Nepal Taekwondo Association Prakash Shamsher Rana is the manager of the team. Athletes from over 200 countries are participating in the Championships.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama bid farewell to the team.
