“Needless character” — The Young and the Restless fans debate Amy’s role and cancer journey as storyline divides opinions

The character of Amy Lewis was introduced on The Young and the Restless in 1983, played by actress Stephanie E. Williams till 1990. However, years later, the character was brought back to Genoa City through actress Valarie Pettiford in 2024. Amy returned to town in October last year, and it was discovered that she was the biological mother of Damian Kane.

Following the recent episodes of the soap opera, fans are voicing their opinions on the arrival and stay of the character. Currently, Amy has been diagnosed with cancer, and she is trying to get well with the help of the Winters, aided by her family ties with the wealthy clan. However, a majority of fans of The Young and the Restless believe otherwise and want the character gone.

"Ok so yall wanna talk about Amy so let’s talk about a woman who Nate got into his doctor friend’s cancer trial because she was dying from cancer and now she’s currently in treatments healing even though she lost all hope."

"Also how many cancer patients lose their hair & they have on a fancy wig? It’s amazing how this cancer patient going through this process isn’t seen as inspiring instead it’s being seen as boring."

Many fans of the daytime soap opera took an interest in the post and shared their views on the same. Some fans agreed with Yokika's remarks, sharing the sentiment that the character adds nothing major to the soap's storyline.

On the other hand, several fans of the soap opera commented on the character's cancer journey; they noted that cancer patients usually look weak after their treatment, but Amy looked healthy, which seemed unrealistic.
