All in all, fans of the soap have had varying opinions on Ric's defense of Ava, in the latest episode on November 27, 2024:
What happened with Ric and Kristina during Ava's trial on General Hospital?
During Ava's trial on General Hospital this week, her attorney Ric Lansing has been trying to prove that Kristina's fall and subsequent miscarriage was simply an accident and not Ava's fault. He asserted that Kristina's anger and missteps were responsible for the loss of her baby, and she was trying to pin the events on Ava to absolve herself of the blame.
In her court testimony, Kristina narrated how she became a surrogate for Molly and TJ's baby, and that the child was healthy throughout the pregnancy. She remembered how happy she was, and that there was no chance for the baby to come to harm other than from what Ava did to her. Kristina then described that she had confronted Ava about a dispute between her and Kristina's father Sonny. As per Kristina's statement, this was when Ava grabbed her arm and pushed her out of the window in the heat of the moment.
After a recess, Ric called Kristina back to the stand. He asked if she had ever wanted to keep Molly and TJ's baby for herself. He used this point to highlight that Kristina was untrustworthy even with Molly and TJ. Ric then reiterated that Kristina was just trying to blame Ava for crimes she had not been convicted of, and accosting her everywhere. He continued by saying that she considered Sonny more important than her pregnancy, which is why her baby died.
At this point, Alexis stood up and protested, asking Ric to leave Kristina alone. She appealed to the court that Ric was badgering the witness. However, the judge viewed this interruption as contempt of court and called a recess, asking for Alexis to be escorted out.
Then, it was Ava's turn to testify on the stand. She recounted her and Kristina's argument, saying that she merely put her hand on Kristina's shoulder to try and calm her anger. At this point, Kristina was the one who had stumbled back, tripped, and fallen out of the suite's window.
During closing statements, Ric mentioned that the situation was a grave one, but Ava was not at fault. Kristina merely had an accident that resulted in her baby's death, but it would be unfair to blame the entire ordeal on Ava. After this, the jury was allowed to go into the jury room and ponder over the outcome of the case. It remains to be seen whether Ric's tactics have worked and whether he has managed to save Ava from being held guilty of the crime.
