Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight ended months of speculation by flipping his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn's 2025 class on Wednesday night. His decommitment has left the Fighting Irish with 22 committed prospects but no committed quarterbacks in the cycle.
Shortly after his commitment to Auburn, Knight has been helping with recruitment as he had a FaceTime conversation with Kentucky four-star cornerback commit Martels Carter. Reports from On3’s Philip Duke revealed that he is actively working to lure Carter to join him in the Plains.
Carter's link to Auburn doesn’t come as a surprise as he was reportedly considering the Tigers even before his commitment to Kentucky. In an interview with On3 in May, he talked about his admiration for Auburn's coaching staff, especially safety coach Charles Kelly.
"Coach Kelly, as a human being, I love him," Carter said. "As a coach, I respect him. I look up to him and see why people want to be coached by him. I also talk to Coach (Hugh) Freeze. He texts me and I talked to him. I definitely feel like a high priority for Auburn.”
Despite committing to Kentucky in late May, Knight’s influence could reignite Carter’s interest in Auburn.
Carter is ranked by On3 as the No. 282 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 24 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 3 recruit in Kentucky. 247 Sports has him as the No. 223 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 19 safety in the class and the No. 2 recruit in the state.
Auburn's recruiting class gets a huge boost with Deuce Knight's commitment
Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class continues to rise with the commitment of Deuce Knight, who is now the fifth-highest-rated player in the Tigers' class.
This cycle, the Tigers rank No. 4 nationally with 25 committed players, placing them in serious contention for the top spot alongside Ohio State, Alabama and Georgia. The real challenge now lies in maintaining the roster through the early signing period on Dec. 4 to potentially secure a top-ranked cycle.
Knight, from Lucedale, Mississippi, has gained attention nationwide for his unique blend of size and skill. During his junior year, he threw for 2,047 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 53.2% of his passes.
Despite missing two games in his senior year due to injury, Knight has shown his passing accuracy by completing 65.7% of his throws for 516 yards and seven touchdowns, according to On3. Additionally, he has recorded 124 rushing yards this season.
Deuce Knight also showcased his athletic prowess as he recorded a 4.53-second 40-yard dash per 247Sports.
