Top High School football quarterback recruit and Michigan Commit Bryce Underwood, recently made headlines with his flip from LSU to Michigan. However, he was also in the news for an NIL deal that he received.
The Spun reported that Barstool Sports is collaborating with Bryce Underwood for the Black Friday season. The collaboration makes sense with Barstool owner Dave Portnoy being a Michigan Alum and Bryce Underwood playing his college football there.
Portnoy talked more about the deal with Underwood on the Barstool College Football Show. He said:
"Black Friday, we have a Bryce Underwood-Barstool collab coming out in the store with him, proceeds going to Bryce Underwood. So be on the lookout for that".

Bryce Underwood's flip from LSU to Michigan
Bryce Underwood was originally committed to LSU and had been committed for quite some time. He committed to the Tigers on Jan. 6, 2024. Other schools like Michigan were still recruiting him but he seemed stuck on LSU. Bryce took an official visit to LSU on Nov. 8, 2024, but just a few weeks later on Nov. 21, news broke that he flipped to Michigan. It shocked many fans but others weren't that surprised.
It was reported that Michigan was going to offer him $10 million in NIL, but even with those rumors, Bryce still remained true to LSU until the flip to Michigan. A few different people like Dave Portnoy of Barstool had influenced Underwood to commit to Michigan.
Portnoy discussed how he and others got Bryce to commit to Michigan on his college football show:
“I got a call from the Michigan football team,“They said, ‘Hey, there’s this donor who wants to talk to you. I said that I’m doing this [landing Underwood] by myself and I don’t need to talk to anybody. And they said, ‘Please, this woman is a big fan of Barstool and you; she’d love to talk to you. Her name is Jolin. They said her husband is a guy by the name of Larry Ellison, you ever heard of him?”
Larry Ellison is a billionaire with an estimated net worth of $240 billion. Jolin Ellison, who is also a Michigan fan was in the mix as well to land Underwood.
Portnoy detailed their conversation with Jolin, stating:
“She said, ‘I never want to live that era ever again. I can’t stomach waking up on a Saturday knowing we’re not the best team on the field'. Jolin said on that first call, ‘I needed somebody from Michigan to step up and show they cared as much as I did. And then it was like the mega powers united."
NIL has become so prominent in the recruiting scene and has been a major factor in where athletes are committing or transferring to.
