On Tuesday, four-star linebacker Gavin Nix flipped his commitment from the Miami Hurricanes to the Oregon Ducks' 2025 class. The 6-foot, 220-pound player had been committed to the Hurricanes since July.
"After much thought and prayer, I have decided to decommit from the University of Miami and will now be committing to the University of Oregon," Nix told Rivals. "This was not an easy decision, as I hold deep respect and admiration for the coaching staff, players, and fans at Miami. This decision comes down to what I believe deeply in my heart."
Nix is the second player this week to de-commit from Miami, as four-star safety Hylton Stubbs also flipped to the Florida Gators on Monday. The Hurricanes hold 20 committed players in the 2025 class, ranking No. 13 in the nation. They are left with only one linebacker in the form of Ezekiel Marcelin.
Nix plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. In his senior season this year, he recorded 33 solo tackles and ten assists. Except for On3, all other recruiting channels list him as a four-star prospect. He is the No. 230 prospect in the nation, the No. 25 linebacker in the 2025 class, and the No. 32 recruit in Florida, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Gavin Nix's father opens up about his flip to the Oregon Ducks
Gavin Nix is the 18th player to commit to the Oregon Ducks' 2025 class, ranking No. 6 in the nation. He visited Eugene in April and returned for an official visit in June. The Ducks linebacker coach, Brian Micahlowski, continued pursuing him despite his commitment to Miami.
Patrick Nix, Gavin's father, provided the reasons behind Gavin's switch, saying (via Rivals):
"It's all about ball, development and getting to the next level. They never stopped recruiting him. In his heart he feels like Oregon is the right place for him."
Nix is the second linebacker in Oregon's 2025 class, joining four-star prospect Nasir Wyatt from Santa Ana, California.
However, Dan Lanning and his coaching staff aren’t done yet, as the Ducks target multiple prospects, including Kansas State tight end commit Linkon Cure, Cal quarterback commit Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele, Michigan tight end commit Andrew Olesh, and Ohio State cornerback commit Na'eem Offord.
