Flau'jae Johnson's team fails to register a win at 5v5 showdown for the second year in a row as it lost to Team JuJu

Flau'jae Johnson failed to avenge last year's loss as JuJu Watkins sealed her first win as a coach at the Army National Guard Next Up 5s on Friday in Atlanta. She continued the legacy of former UConn Huskies star Paige Beuckers, who was able to secure a 105-102 win over Johnson's team last year.

Team JuJu earned a 80-64 win over Team Flau'jae. Some of the highlights from the game were posted on Instagram by Overtime Select.

The USC Trojans star and the LSU Tigers star had a back-and-forth before the game started. Overtime Select also shared the moment where they trash talked in a lighthearted moment.

"This is really where I belong, you know what I mean girl?" Johnson said. "Coaching these girls, I'm excited."
"I'm a little bit nervous, I've never coached before," Watkins said. "You're gonna lose but it's all love at the end of the day."
"I hope you got your JuJu with you," Johnson said.

Johnson also talked about the impact of the tournament during the postgame conference.

“I didn’t have this opportunity, you know what I’m saying? To be on such a stage, and it’s because they’re such elite players," Johnson said. "Just seeing all the good things that they’re getting, seeing how the rise of women’s basketball is affecting them. Three years ago, this league would never [have] happened, four or five years ago, six years ago.”

Kaleena Smith wins the MVP award against Flau'jae Johnson's team

Kaleena Smith, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2027, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, received the MVP award after she recorded a double-double for Team JuJu. She scored 40 points, leading her team in the win over team Flau'jae.

The highlights posted by Overtime Select showed Smith dribbling past defenders with ease, working hard on defense and converting shots from the deep.

Smith has two more years to decide on her collegiate career and has received offers from the Iowa Hawkeyes, South Carolina Gamecocks, UConn Huskies, LSU Tigers and USC Trojans, among others.
