Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, recently garnered attention for showing love and support for his girlfriend via an Instagram Story. The young basketball standout posted a heartfelt message encouraging his followers to vote for her in her school’s Homecoming Queen campaign.

Homecoming Queen is a prestigious title often awarded during high school and college homecoming celebrations which typically include a football game, parades, and a dance. The Homecoming Queen is chosen through a student voting process.
Born on March 16, 2007, in Chatsworth, California, Alijah Arenas is a rising star in basketball. Standing at 6'4" and weighing 173 pounds, he is a shooting guard for Chatsworth High School, where he is regarded as one of the top prospects.
Alijah Arenas once reflected on the recruitment process and influences
Alijah Arenas ranked No. 3 in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings. This season, he averaged 33.0 points per game while shooting 49.4 percent from the field. He has drawn significant interest from top programs like UCLA, Texas, Nebraska, and Arizona. Reflecting on his game, Arenas told On3 in April:
“I feel like I’m very patient with my game,” Arenas told On3. “I hear a lot about how I play, but most people say that I’m good with my pace. I’m focusing the most right now on getting stronger and my shooting ability is more consistent."
Arenas shared a bit about his inspirations as well:
“It starts at the top,” Arenas said. “I take pieces from Steph Curry and LeBron. Everything from the way they move their feet to the way they see the floor. I like Jamal Crawford a lot, and it is that type of player that I try to see in myself.”
“I have offers from UCLA, Texas, Nebraska, Arizona, and a few others,” Arenas said. “I’ve been to a couple of games so far. I went to a UCLA game and an Arizona game.”
With significant attention from other programs, Alijah Arenas has visited UCLA and Arizona so far. About UCLA, he remarked:
"The atmosphere there was crazy. I wasn’t expecting that level of intensity from the crowd, but it really helped the team. Their facilities are very professional, and players just need to use those tools to get to the next step."
Alijah Arenas’ father, former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is also involved in his recruitment and is actively guiding his son:
“My dad has never pushed me, telling me I have to go to any one place,” Arenas said. He has told me to explore, build the relationships, and see what is best and most comfortable for me. For college, the atmosphere and the crowd is kind of the number one thing I’m looking for,” Arenas said.
In 62 high school games, he has averaged 31.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
