Kaleena Smith is already one of the most talented and dominant players in high school basketball, and she is still a sophomore. She gave evidence of that during a 'Made Hoops' game in Las Vegas, Nevada, as she was making the opposing coach call on her players to help out in defending Smith.
A defender actually took up the challenge, but an ankle breaker from Smith then led to a step-back three, with no other defender coming out to help take on the five-star prospect. This has gotten fans talking and pointing out the terrible defense on her, though there were also some who defended the coach.
"Ain't no help coming 😂," said one commenter.
"We all knew she was cooked lol," another commenter added.
"Lol naw she’s just clearly a hooper turned coach and can see these things develop as they are happening, I do this all the time coaching," noted another commenter.
Some were just praising Kaleena Smith for how good she is, while others commented on their analysis of the situation.
"Even the couch couldn't stop the monstrosity that was bound to happen 😭😭💀." said one commenter.
"That isn’t what that means… she is continuously reminding her team to be in help position… great click bait tho," replied another person.
"It’s a mismatch on the inbound. Post player playing on the perimeter. Zone had to be weak lol," another commenter pointed out.
Kaleena Smith currently plays for the Ontario Christian Knights in California and is so far undefeated, coming off a big 74-66 win against heavily-favored Etiwanda on Nov. 23. They will next face off against Duncanville on Nov. 29.
Kaleena Smith vs. Aaliyah Chavez game set for Nov. 30
After her game against Duncanville, Kaleena Smith and Ontario Christian will be facing their biggest challenge yet. They will take on the No. 1-ranked player from the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez and the Monterey Lady Plainsmen.
The game will be part of the Holiday Hoopfest in Duncanville, Texas. It is scheduled for Nov. 30 at 6:30 PM, with Smith and the 3-0 Knights aiming to continue their undefeated streak. Chavez and the 14-1 Plainsmen seek a victory against the visitors.
Both Chavez and Smith were named to the 2024-2025 MaxPreps Preseason All-America Girls Basketball Team, with both players already receiving offers from various colleges across the country.
