Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1-ranked player in the country, announced that she will be playing for the Oklahoma Sooners next season. The 5-foot-9 point guard completed a stellar high school basketball career at Monterey and led them to their first state title after 44 years last season.Chavez has since received more good news before heading to Oklahoma. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe camp, which is set to take place at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, will feature 27 players from high school graduating classes of 2026, 2027 and 2028, and some players from college freshmen and sophomores.From the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez will be accompanied by UCLA Bruins signee Sienna Betts, Texas Longhorns signee Aaliyah Crump, USC Trojans signee Jazzy Davidson, Mississippi State Bulldogs signee Madison Francis, LSU Tigers signee ZaKiyah Johnson, Duke Blue Devils signee Emilee Skinner and Stanford Cardinals signee Hailee Swain.With 27 players invited to the camp, the final 12-member roster will be announced before the team travels to Brno, Czechia, for the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup from July 12-20.Aaliyah Chavez made the camp, having won the Gatorade Player of the Year twice, Naismith Player of the Year and the MaxPreps National Player of the Year.She was also a part of the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit and the Jordan Brand Classic. Apart from leading the Plainsmen to a state title, Aaliyah Chavez averaged 34.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game in 42 games.Monterey finished with a 37-5 record and a 14-2 record in the Texas Region I 5A Region I District 3 Basketball League, where they finished third, below Amarillo and Tascosa.Indiana head coach Teri Moren to lead Aaliyah Chavez and the team in CzechiaIndiana Hoosiers head coach Teri Moren was announced as the head coach for the U19 team.
