Thursday's Pennsylvania High School football game between Downingtown East and Coatesville was canceled due to a shooting incident involving a Coatesville school bus. A 17-year-old Coatesville student was arrested following the incident, while the police are searching for three other potential suspects, according to ABC-6 in Pennsylvania.
The shooting was described as targeted rather than a mass shooting, with the intended target believed to have been on the bus and attacked while getting off. Reportedly, no one was injured.
"Our investigation shows this is not some sort of school shooting, or someone trying to shoot up a school bus, or drive by," the Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe said, as per ABC-6. "This was a targeted event where the actors were targeting someone getting off the bus."
Two shots were fired at the bus, one hitting the grill and the other hitting the front window. The motive behind the shooting is believed to be a personal feud between two students, according to de Barrena-Sarobe.
Downingtown East has won four of their seven games this season and will play their next game against Bishop Shanahan on October 18. Coatesville on the other hand, is 5-2 through seven games of the season and faces Downingtown West on the same day.
Another Pennsylvania High School football was canceled due to a knife fight
Another Pennsylvania high school football game on Thursday was postponed due to a knife fight. The game between Unionville High School and Kennett High School was postponed as a precaution. However, other activities at the high school will go ahead as planned, albeit with some additional security at the campus.
"We recognize that our senior cheerleaders, football players and marching band members will be especially disappointed in the postponement of their recognition at tonight's game," Unionville's principal, Amy Jenkins said in a statement. "We will share more information with you once it becomes available, including a new game, date and time."
The Unionville High School currently holds a record of 5-2-1 so far this season. They will play their next game against Sun Valley High School on Friday, October 18.
Kennett High School, on the other hand, is 3-3-1 through seven games of the season. They will take on the Avon Grove Red Devils from West Grove, Pennsylvania at home this Friday.
