Class of 2027 recruit Taylor Brown joined Kaleena Smith in leading JuJu Watkins' Team JuJu at the Army National Guard Next Up 5s on Friday in Atlanta. The duo led their team to a win over Flau'jae Johnson's team.
Brown, a 5-foot-7 point guard, will enter her junior year at Long Island Lutheran, the same school from which the son of the 10-time NBA All-Star Camelo Anthony, Kiyan Anthony, graduated this year. She made an appearance in a video posted by the famous basketball page Overtime Select with the USC Trojans star JuJu Watkins' game plan.
"Juju definitely a top 5 coach 💪 @jujubballin @taytay_theglove @gatorade," the post was captioned.
JuJu Watkins asked Brown about her favourite moment from the game.
"I would definitely say the final 15 seconds when we knew we had the win and stuff like that. And then we all started going on the court, clapping, and then the confetti fell down on us. I would definitely say that.
The USC star agreed and then asked the 5-foot-7 point guard to describe her coaching style in three words.
"Calm, aggressive and just straight to the point, she literally just wrote on the whiteboard, "win," there's nothing else about it, just win," said Brown.
This loss marked LSU Tigers' star Flau'jae Johnson's second loss in this game after she was defeated by a tight 105-102 margin.
However, in the post-game conference, Johnson spoke about the impact of this game.
“I didn’t have this opportunity, you know what I’m saying? To be on such a stage, and it’s because they’re such elite players," Johnson said. "Just seeing all the good things that they’re getting, seeing how the rise of women’s basketball is affecting them. Three years ago, this league would never [have] happened, four or five years ago, six years ago.”
Kaleena Smith won the MVP Award after leading JuJu Watkins' team to victory
The No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2027 (as per On3's Industry Rankings), Kaleena Smith, recorded a double double and scored 40 points to lead JuJu Watkins' team to an 80-64 win.
Some highlights of her performance were uploaded by the famous basketball page Overtime Select.
"A 40 point double-double for your first takeover game is nasty work 🔥 @special.kayyy11 @nationalguard," the post was captioned.
Smith has received offers from UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, Iowa Hawkeyes and more. She still has two more years to decide on her collegiate career.
