On July 8, 2024, South Korean media outlet Ten Asia reported that BTS' Jin was spotted at Hallasan Mountain, on Jeju Island. According to the report, The Astronaut singer-songwriter visited Jeju Island, South Korea in late June and was spotted with his filming crew. The variety show is aimed to be released in the following months.

Later, posts of him with his father and the filming crew at Hallasan Mountain went viral online. One netizen, @JIN1204_Earth, posted about seeing the idol descending from Baengnokdam (crater lake).

For the unversed, the lake is located atop Jeju Island's shielded volcanic mountain, Hallasan. Ten Asia reported that one official mentioned that the BTS idol is busy filming self-produced content which is being overseen by BIGHIT MUSIC (now HYBE Labels).

"Jin recently filmed content where he goes hiking. This is self-produced content planned directly by Jin and BigHit."

BTS Jin makes headlines with his latest brand deal and filming at various locations

BTS' eldest member, Kim Seok-jin, was discharged from the South Korean military on June 12, 2024, after 18 months of service. He enlisted on December 13, 2022, as the first BTS member to do so.

On July 8, 2024, he became the first global ambassador for the French luxury jewelry brand FRED. He was also seen at his alma mater, Posung High School, wearing a school uniform and filming various content, including scenes in the cafeteria, surrounded by students.

On July 1, Soompi reported that BTS' Jin is confirmed to feature on the MBC variety show, The Half-Star Hotel in Lost Island. Billboard reported on July 2 (KST), that the idol was expected to represent South Korea as one of the torchbearers aka Forerunners for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics Torch Relay.

The BTS idol joined the honorable list of previous "Forerunners" that includes Britain's Royal family members such as Prince William, Princess Kate, and Prince Harry.

Over the years, other torchbearers included Muhammad Ali, David Beckham, Halle Berry, Rupert Grint, NBA veteran Magic Johnson, Serena & Venus Williams, Sylvester Stallone, Diddy, and Ellen DeGeneres, among others.

How was BTS Jin selected as the 2024 Paris Olympics & Paralympics torchbearer?

On January 2024, the official website of 2024 Paris announced the 11,000 torchbearers aka Forerunners for the Games. As per tradition, the torchbearers were chosen to represent their countries and relay the message, "The Games have arrived in France!"

They were chosen based on their will, dedication, and their ability to uphold at least one of the fundamental ideas of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This selection process involved contributions from various communities such as the sporting movement, and the project's stakeholders, which include the Île-de-France Region, the French State, the City of Paris, the Métropole du Grand Paris, the Seine-Saint-Denis Department, Club Paris 2024, the representatives of Terre de Jeux 2024, and the schools that have earned the Generation 2024 label.

After 100 years, France is hosting the 2024 Summer Games which will begin on July 26 and end on August 11. The Olympic Flame was first lit in Olympia, Greece, on May 8, and crossed the Mediterranean from Athens to Marseille on the ship, Bélem.

Over three months, 11,000 torchbearers (10,000 Olympics Forerunners and 1,000 Paralympics Forerunners) will participate in the relay marathon traveling across 400 cities in France and its five overseas regions—French Guiana, Reunion Island, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, and Martinique—before arriving at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Paralympic torch will be lit in Stoke Mandeville, England, on August 25, 2024. It will arrive in Paris on August 28, 2024, at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Paralympics Games that will end on September 8. Around 1,000 torchbearers will run across 50 cities throughout France.

It is significant to note that it is yet unknown if Jin of BTS will take part in the Paralympic or Olympic torch relays as the torchbearer.
