Culinary Class Wars' Napoli Matfia's Chestnut Tiramisu: How to pre-order, price, & all you need to know

On Tuesday, October 8, the South Korean convenience store, CU, announced the release of Culinary Class Wars' Napoli Matfia's Chestnut Tiramisu. Previously, on the latest episode of Netflix's South Korean reality culinary show, the participants were given the task of creating dishes using convenience store items.

The contestant, Napoli Matfia, created a dish called Chestnut Tiramisu using the CU convenience store's maroon cream bread and chestnuts, and his dish was one of the three winners of the episode. After the episode's release, the dish became viral across South Korea. Though the dish's recipe was released, fans were intrigued about the intricacies of the dish that was created by Napoli Matfia.

Threfore, when CU announced that they'd be releasing a collaborative Marron Tiramisu with Napoli Matfia, fans were naturally thrilled and excited. The product is expected to be sold at 4,900 KRW, approximately $3.60. The pre-orders for the same will be open between Tuesday, October 8 and Thursday, October 10 on the mobile application of the CU convenience store.

On the other hand, CU also stated that the ingredients used by Kwon Seong-joon, the real name of Napoli Matfia, the marron cream bread and chestnuts, saw an increase in its sales by 31.1% and 42.7%, respectively. CU also revealed that they closely worked with Chef Kwon to create and commercialize the product.

“You’ll be able to taste the sweet and savory flavor of autumn chestnuts and deep cream cheese.”

They also shared, during a press release held on Tuesday, according to Korea Joongang Daily, that additional collaborative product releases can be expected in the future.


All you need to know about Culinary Class Wars and Napoli Matfia's Chestnut Tiramisu

Culinary Class Wars is a South Korean Netflix series that revolves around the competition between professional chefs and amateur chefs, who are called White Spoon and Black Spoon Chefs, respectively. This is also the first time South Korea has conducted a reality culinary show.

Therefore, the craze and viewership for the show have been impressive and consistently increasing. The show's tasks are judged by two popular South Korean chefs, Choi Hyun-seok and Baek Jong-won. For the eighth episode of the show, the contestants were asked to create a show using only convenience store ingredients.

Among the several participating chefs, three chefs and their dishes were deemed as winners. They were Napoli Matfia's Chestnut Tiramisu, Cooking Maniac's Ramyeon Pad Thai, and Jung Ji-sun's Ramyeon You Po Mian. Napoli Matfia is a Black Spoon chef while Cooking Maniac and Jung Ji-sun are White Spoon chefs.

Here's the recipe for the Chestnut Tiramisu, which went viral across South Korea and the internet:

Ingredients

  • One pack of snack chestnuts
  • 500ml of milk
  • 250g of cream cheese
  • Whole wheat biscuits
  • Toffee nut latte
  • 400ml of heavy cream
  • Chocolate
  • Granola

Recipe

  1. Boil one pack of snack chestnuts with milk, then blend into a puree
  2. Mix the chestnut puree with cream cheese, then chill in the freezer for 30 minutes. Afterwards, mix with heavy cream.
  3. Mix four whole wheat biscuits with a toffee nut latte to make the base, and stick it in three layers with the cream mixture.
  4. Grate slightly frozen chocolate over the top to cover it.
  5. Finally, toast the granola in a frying pan and sprinkle it on top to finish with a crispy texture.
