On October 15, 2024, the former CEO of ADOR and creative producer of NewJeans, Min Hee-jin provided an exclusive interview with a Japanese news program Hodo Station. In the interview, she addressed the questions regarding NewJeans Hanni's appearance at the National Assembly's Environment and Labour Committee hearing. She said:
"Since Hanni's mother is not in Seoul right now, it is only natural that I have to play the role of her mother while in Seoul. Someone has to be a support."
Min Hee-jin is often referred to as 'NewJeans' Mom' who stepped down as ADOR's CEO in August 2024. Her recent interview came on the same day as Hanni's appearance at the National Assembly audit as a witness to testify against workplace harassment and bullying at HYBE.
Min Hee-jin expresses uncertainty about NewJeans' future
In an interview with Japan's TV Asahi and ANN news program, 'Press Station', Min Hee-jin talked about her current employment status at HYBE and the future activities of the girl group. She expresses uncertainty about the group's future and highlights that a full album and a world tour in 2025 were already on the cards if the situation had not happened.
"I don't know what will happen to NewJeans. I'm just leaving it to fate. (...) I had already been thinking about a full album early next year, starting with a world tour. But who could have predicted that such a thing would happen?"
While explaining her current role at HYBE she says that she has not signed a producer or CEO contract as of now and that she only has the authority of an internal director. However, she mentions that she is still continuing the practical work that she has planned and implemented before. However, she points out that she is uncertain about the next steps and wants the situation with HYBE to be resolved quickly.
Regarding the management dispute with HYBE and her dismissal as ADOR's CEO, she stated that it is ironic to be accused of breach of trust when you are offered the role of producer. She emphasised that she joined HYBE to create a new wave and flow in K-pop and highlighted that she would not have joined if those aspects had not been guaranteed.
"HYBE invited me to be a part of that vision, I chose them among many options. If certain condition had not been guaranteed, I would not have joined the company."
Min Hee-jin concluded the interview by highlighting how this feud with HYBE is important for everyone involved, including herself. She also hoped for a quick resolution of this dispute and ensured to do her best to fulfill NewJeans' plans.
This was Min Hee-jin's first interview with a broadcaster since she was dismissed as the CEO of Ador. She has filed a provisional injunction requesting her reinstatement. She claims that the decision of the board members was unjust.
On October 14, 2024, HYBE released an updated Key Schedule for all the K-pop groups' activities this year. Regarding the future activities of NewJeans, fans of the group noticed how the group was allegedly left out of the plans for the fourth quarter. Fans expressed their concerns and dismay over this update.
Hanni's testimony at the National Assembly has been going viral on the internet as she calls out ADOR's current CEO Kim Jo-yoong and HYBE's CEO Bang Hyung-sik in the case of bullying and workplace harassment.
