On December 27, Kep1er's agency, WAKEONE and KLAP Entertainment, released a statement announcing that the K-pop girl group's fan signing event scheduled for December 28 has been canceled. This decision was made after four out of the seven members fell ill. The agencies revealed that the members Yujin, Hikaru, Chaehyun, and Dayeon were diagnosed with Type A Influenza.
The agency explained that while Chaehyun and Dayeon had previously contracted the virus, Yujin and Hikaru were recently diagnosed with the same. To prioritize the health and safety of both fans and the members, they decided to cancel the fan signing event. Following this announcement, many fans expressed concern for the members.
Many netizens argued that the fan signing events should have been canceled or postponed much earlier before the members were affected by the virus. They also called out the agency for allegedly not letting Kep1er rest enough and overworking them with packed schedules. One fan on X tweeted:
"i knew this was gonna happen… get well soon yujin and hikaru"
Some fans shared their thoughts on the event cancellation.
"how many members are going to get sick until the company realize, cancel the remaining fansigns and let them rest," said a fan on X.
"Could this be a f*cking wake up call for Klap to STOP THE FANSIGNS ALREADY???? THE GIRLS ARE TIRED AND NOW THEY'RE ALL GETTING SICK," added another fan.
"Kep1ian has been saying for so long to stop doing fansigns and let the girls rest. But you didn’t listen. Now almost all the members are sick because of your actions!!!" commented a netizen.
Netizens called out WAKEONE and KLAP Entertainment for their alleged actions.
"Just cancel ALL upcoming signing events and conclude this era," stated a fan.
"see??!! and you still have the guts to continue with the new fan sign events? Please girls, have a proper rest. Remember your health always matters the most," commented an X user.
"CANCEL ALL THOSE FANSIGNS, let those girls rest. when they get better, let them spend time with their families & friends. then when we see them perform again, IT'LL BE AS SEVEN ALREADY," said a netizen.
"Not only did they not let the other members rest from yesterday’s fan sign, they also risked infecting the fans who attended. And they still keep on announcing new fansigns" added another X user.
WAKEONE and KLAP Entertainment release statement announcing cancellation of Kep1er's fan signing event
Kep1er is a seven-piece K-pop girl group that debuted under WAKEONE Entertainment in January 2022 after the members participated in Mnet's reality survival show, Girls Planet 999. They debuted with their first mini album, First Impact, and are currently managed by WAKEONE and KLAP Entertainment.
Most recently, Kep1er released their sixth mini album, TIPI-TAP, in November 2024. Following this release, the members have been hosting fan signing events where they meet fans and sign albums from their recent release. However, due to health concerns affecting four members, the upcoming fan signing event scheduled for December 28 has been canceled.
The official statement from the agency regarding the cancellation:
"We are informing you that the fan signing event scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 28 has been cancelled entirely due to members Yujin and Hikaru also being diagnosed with Type A influenza."
The statement continued to explain that all the Kep1er members were taken to the hospital. After their check-up, they decided to take the doctor's opinion, which demanded rest for the four members.
"All of the members visited the hospital this morning and were tested for Type A influenza, and a total of four members were diagnosed with the virus. In accordance with the doctor’s opinion that all of the members need isolation and rest, the scheduled fan signing event has been cancelled."
They concluded their statement with:
"As this decision to cancel the event was for the artists’ health and the fans’ safety, we ask for your understanding. Information regarding refunds for the fan signing event will be delivered through the record company."
Following the announcement, fans have been wishing a speedy recovery for the Kep1er members.
