On August 14, KBS2 launched the first episode of the new television series, Perfect Family, which will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:50 PM KST. Additionally, it will be accessible to viewers worldwide in a few locations via Viki and Viu. Based on a webtoon by Nyangpa and Joo Eun, this 2024 South Korean drama series, Perfect Family is directed by Yukisada Isao.
The casting of Perfect Family, which includes well-known Korean actors like Kim Byung-chul, Yoon Se-ah, and Park Ju-hyun, has particularly amazed fans. Choi Jin-hyeok, his wife Ha Eun-ju, and their daughter Sun-hui, had a seemingly perfect life, until Sun-hui returned home one day covered in blood, confessing she might have killed her friend.
As suspicions arise following a house fire and the disappearance of another child, tensions escalate within their community.

In the first episode, we find out that Sun-hui and Su-yeon have a rather dark past. They used to be the best of friends but due to a fire, things went downhill. As Su-yeon shows up at Sun-hui's school as a new student, it is revealed why Su-yeon looks at Sun-hui with anger and contempt.
Perfect Family episode 1 recap: How did Sun-hui wrong Su-yeon?
In the first episode of Perfect Family, Sun-hui runs to give Su-yeon her notes, but sees her going to Gyeong-ho's house. There, he has prepared a surprise for Sun-hui. Su-yeon seems annoyed by this. Just then Sun-hui hears screaming from inside the house and goes in to see Gyeong-ho grabbing Su-yeon's hands and her burnt scalp exposed.
Su-yeon blames Sun-hui for her condition and runs at her with a knife but Gyeong-ho comes in the middle and takes the blow. Sun-hui walks back home with blood all over her clothes and tells her mother that she killed Gyeong-ho.
In the next scene, Sun-hui is shown going to her school merrily. Su-yeon is introduced as a new student in Sun-hui's class. She asks Sun-hui if she remembers her. At lunch, Sun-hui, Gyeong-ho and Hyeon-woo are sitting together, talking about how Sun-hui has the perfect family. Su-yeon can hear the conversation.
Sun-hui's father, Choi Jin-hyeok receives the Excellent Person of Korea award and takes pictures with his family later. Sun-hui has many admirers, Gyeong-ho being one. In the class, Su-yeon, who has been observing Sun-hui for a while, pulls out a bunch of matchsticks and asks her if she still does not remember.
In a flashback, Su-yeon is shown protecting Sun-hui from bullies. She narrates the story of how her parents killed each other in a fire. Sun-hui's mom passed away and as she says it, her father went somewhere.
Su-yeon reveals that she lied about her parents dying in a fire. The two became inseparable friends. Su-yeon taught Sun-hui how to light a match and one day gave her a box of matchsticks as a gift since she was getting adopted the next day.
In the present, Su-yeon tells Sun-hui that could not get adopted since she got hurt, and is living with someone from the orphanage. Sun-hui is surprised. She promises to help Su-yeon be happy and celebrate their new-found friendship, Su-yeon asks if she can keep the gift Gyeong-ho gave to her.
Gyeong-ho tells Hyun-woo that Sun-hui is unwilling to date till she is in college. Back at home, Sun-hui consults her father on how to approach her difficult friend, Su-yeon. Meanwhile, the store where Su-yeon used to work is closed. The owner apparently ran away after selling the store without paying his employees.
At school, Su-yeon yells at Sun-hui to lend her some money. The next day, Gyeong-ho gives her money and asks her to stop bullying Sun-hui. This angers her and she attacks Gyeong-ho and walks out of the classroom. Gyeong-ho apologizes to her later.
Su-yeon finds Hyun-woo and asks him why he does not confess his love to Sun-hui. To this, he responds that his family is not at the same level as Sun-hui and Gyeong-ho. Su-yeon calls Sun-hui to a secluded place since she has to tell her something.
Here, she asks Sun-hui whether she knows how much Su-yeon was hurt to not get adopted. She pulls away her wig and reveals her burnt skin. In a flashback, it is shown that Sun-hui had set fire to the orphanage, in which Su-yeon got burnt. As Su-yeon was being treated in the hospital, Sun-hui was adopted. The first episode of Perfect Family ends with a flashback of Su-yeon reading Sun-hui the story about the kind prince and the swallow.
The next episode of Perfect Family is scheduled to release on August 15.
