Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the highly anticipated Squid Game 2, the global phenomenon that captivated audiences in 2021 with its brutal survival games. The series, created and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, is set to return on December 26, 2024, promising more intense psychological drama, new contestants, and deadly challenges.

The latest season 2 trailer showed Choi Seung-hoon, aka T.O.P of BIGBANG, as player 230, who mercilessly pushes another player to win the brutal round in Squid Game. However, hawk-eyed fans noticed T.O.P wearing different colored nail polishes. As per his Squid Game season 2 character, he reportedly plays as a retired K-pop idol.

Astute fans speculated if T.O.P got his character's fashion inspiration from his bandmate, BIGBANG's G-DRAGON, who was seen sporting colored nails in recent public appearances. One fan wrote on X:

"Since his character is supposed to be a retired idol what if his inspiration is GD"

BIGBANG fans were thrilled and shared their conjectures. Some speculated that G-DRAGON must have collaborated with T.O.P on a song for Squid Game 2.

"In my fantasy TOP and GD have a song on Squid Games 2 soundtrack," one fan wrote.
"Ah gtop rumors, I'm finally home at last," another fan said.
"WHAAAAAAT. I mean could be so common and casual but this crumb was perfect placed and filled me up," one other fan exclaimed.

Others mentioned how much they missed seeing the two BIGBANG members together.

"I think the color choice was taken from gd," one fan said.
"I miss this 'UNIT'. PLEASE COMEBACK," another fan pleaded.
"What if they did it together," a fan added.

Netflix drops official trailer for Squid Game 2, teasing a darker and more twisted plot

The Squid Game 2 trailer, released on November 27, 2024, picks up three years after Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) harrowing victory in the first season. Gi-hun, now a hardened and determined survivor, reenters the games not to compete but to dismantle them from within.

Fans also catch glimpses of returning characters, including the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), detective Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), and the mysterious recruiter played by Gong Yoo.

Netflix has expanded the cast with several high-profile additions. Joining the game are Im Si-wan (Summer Strike), Kang Ha-neul (Midnight Runners), Park Sung-hoon (Queen of Tears), and Yang Dong-geun, who will play pivotal roles as new participants. Other notable additions include Jo Yuri, a former member of the K-pop group IZ*ONE, and BIGBANG's Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P).

Additional cast members include Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Kang Ae-sim (Wonderful World), Lee Jin-uk (Dear Haeri), Lee David (Law School), Roh Jae-won (Daily Dose of Sunshine), and Won Ji-an (D.P), who bring fresh perspectives to the deadly competition.

This diverse ensemble promises to add depth to the new season as players navigate a new set of high-stakes games for the massive prize of 45.6 billion won.

Season 2 will delve deeper into Gi-hun’s transformation, exploring his survivor’s guilt and his resolve to confront the creators of the game. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that this season will be “a game within a game,” with unexpected twists and moral dilemmas.

Squid Game 2 will also revisit unresolved threads, including the fate of Hwang Jun-ho, whose storyline in season 1 left fans with lingering questions. Hwang, who infiltrated the games as a police officer, was last seen being shot by the Front Man, who is revealed to be his brother.

Fans can also expect fresh takes on the games in Squid Game 2, with new challenges teased in the trailer, alongside the return of the haunting Red Light, Green Light doll that became an icon of the first season.

Squid Game 2 will stream on Netflix globally from December 26, 2024.
