On November 25, 2024, the new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released online by Paramount Pictures. Directed by Jeff Fowler, the trailer teases the arrival of Shadow the Hedgehog alongside Geral Robotnik and Ivo Robotnik as they try to execute their plan to take over Earth. In the middle of it all, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails must do their best to stop them before it's too late.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Shadow the Hedgehog will be voiced by actor Keanu Reeves. The trailer paints him as the ultimate big bad of this series and also hints at his upcoming battle with Sonic. Aside from that, long-time fans will be able to catch many easter eggs in the trailer too such as Shadow's relationship with Maria Robotnik and him riding his iconic bike.

Who is Shadow? Exploring Sonic the Hedgehog 3 villain's origins
In the Sonic video game, Shadow the Hedgehog was created by Dr. Gerald Robotnik on the space colony known as ARK. He was initially conceived to achieve immortality and is also considered the "ultimate life form." On board ARK, Maria Robotnik lived alongside Gerald's granddaughter who Shadow became extremely close to as well.
Maria herself was suffering from a life-threatening disease. It was also revealed that Shadow was created so that Gerald could use him to cure Maria. However, Shadow was ultimately deemed a threat by the Guardian Unites of Nations, and a raid was followed on ARK with Gerald's work being destroyed.
While escaping, Maria was shot by one of the soldiers which sent Shadow into a fit of rage and madness. This made Gerald then further brainwash Shadow into seeking vengeance upon the world and destroying it. Following the event, Shadow then stayed in stasis for a decade in his cryotube. He was eventually freed by Ivo Robotnik so that he could assist him in his plan for world domination.
However, while Shadow eventually started as a villain, he quickly became one of Sonic's closest allies. With him being brainwashed, Sonic was able to get his memories back and over the years he has been a close ally of his while maintaining a rivalry with the blue hedgehog too.
What is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 about?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an upcoming film directed by Jeff Fowler. The film is a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The movie stars Ben Schwartz as the titular blue hedgehog and he will be joined by Idris Elba as Knuckles and Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower. The official synopsis of the film as per Paramount Pictures reads as:
"Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before.
