In the latest episode of his 4th&1 with Cam Newton podcast, Newton called on Lil Wayne to settle Kendrick Lamar's feud with Drake. The episode was titled If Rappers were College Football programs: Kendrick Vs. Lil Wayne.
Calling on Lil Wayne to take on Kendrick Lamar, Newton said:
“He won’t be able to do that with Dwayne Carter. I wanna see Lil’ Wayne… just for the appreciation of the art… because Drake ain’t capable.”
Talking about the beef between Lamar and Drizzy, Cam Newton said that he's a fan of Drake. However, he looks at the One Dance rapper differently after his feud with Kendrick Lamar. Newton also said that he doesn't think Drake "has it in him to go to the places that he needs to go to attack Kendrick properly.”
In addition to suggesting that Lil Wayne should settle the Drake-Lamar feud by taking on the Money Trees rapper, Cam Newton addressed that Lamar would be performing in Wayne's hometown, New Orleans. Commenting on the same, Cam Newton questioned if Lil Wayne wasn't going to drop a diss track on Lamar because he was going to perform in his hometown.
Kendrick Lamar takes a dig at Lil Wayne in latest album GNX
Kendrick Lamar surprise-dropped his album GNX on November 22, 2024, featuring 12 tracks, wherein one of the tracks Waced Out Murals consisted of lyrics taking a dig at Lil Wayne, Snoop Dog, and a compliment to Nas.
The lyrics mentioning Lil Wayne read:
“Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud,” Lamar raps. “Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down/Whatever, though, call me crazy, everybody questionable.”
On September 8, 2024, Kendrick Lamar took to Instagram to announce that he would be headlining the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in February. Lamar's announcement became a matter of controversy with artists like Nicki Minaj expressing discontent with the same, citing Lil Wayne should be performing instead of Lamar since the Super Bowl is in his hometown, New Orleans.
In an Instagram video dated September 13, 2024, Lil Wayne also expressed disappointment at not being selected to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl, especially because it was taking place in New Orleans.
"I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position. I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot," Lil Wayne said.
Kendrick Lamar didn't respond to Wayne until he name-dropped him in Waced Out Murals. Additionaly, the DNA rapper also mentioned how Nas was the only artist who congratulated him on headlining the 2025 Super Bowl via lyrics stating:
"Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me/ All these (expletive) agitated/ I’m just glad it’s on their faces/ Quite frankly, plenty artist but they outdated/ Old (expletive) flows trying to convince me that you they favorite."
According to a report by Tribune dated November 29, 2024, the NFL has reportedly connected with Lil Wayne's team to discuss the possibility of him replacing Lamar at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show on February 9, 2025.
The situation was raised after Drake's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter warning the NFL to prevent Lamar from defaming Drizzy during the performance. Kendrick Lamar performing his diss track Not Like Us at the Super Bowl could lead to more problems between Drake and him.
