America's former Olympic champion, Maurice Greene, who finished a 100m under 9.8 seconds for the first time in history, made bold claims recently. He said that Usain Bolt's iconic 9.58-second 100-meter world record is not impossible to break.

Greene is one of the trailblazing figures in global athletics and is known for being the 100-meter world record holder for a long time. It was the 1999 Tsikliteria International track meet where he made the headlines after finishing the 100-meter event in a world lead time of 10.79 seconds. Furthermore, the runner also has four Olympic medals under his name and has been declared the world champion five times.

Having run 100-meter races in sub-10s quite a few times, Greene recently got candid with Citius Mag and said that he won't contradict the fact that Usain Bolt's 9.58 second world record is not impossible to break. Greene stated:

"I never say anything is impossible, even when I was competitng I was like it's always about breaking barriers. They said we wouldn’t be able to run 9.7, and then I was able to run 9.7. It’s about believing that you can do something impossible or beliving in yourself that you are capable of doing something."

Maurice Greene also added that one should always try to achieve those numbers, and even if it gets tricky to get something, one should always have fun trying.

Maurice Greene didn't think Usain Bolt could set the world records at London Olympics 2012

In his decade-long career, Usain Bolt set several records, including the 19.19 seconds in the 200 meter and many others. He is also the winner of eight Olympic medals and eleven world championship titles.

However, when the Jamaican phenom was preparing for his third Olympic appearance in 2012 in London, Maurice Greene gave a bold statement and said that Bolt wouldn't be able to set any world records at those games. In a statement given at the time, Greene stated (via Caribbean Media Corporation):

"The race in London is going to be a lot closer than a lot of people think. It's going to be a really exciting race, I'm going to tell you right now, he can't do that (set a new world record). I look at people. I analyze their races. He hasn't shown to me to be in that type of shape that he was in 2008."

However, he had also warned Bolt's competitors that if they wanted the gold, they had to be prepared accordingly. Nonetheless, Bolt reigned supreme at the London Olympics and swept golds in all three categories (100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay).
