Yohan Blake responded to the backlash he received after speaking about lacking respect from his country, Jamaica. The former Olympic silver medalist, who missed out on a spot in the Jamaican Olympic Team for Paris, revealed in an interview that he was respected by people from countries other than Jamaica.
Blake made this statement while speaking about not qualifying for the Paris Olympics, which would have been his final participation in the quadrennial games.
You know as I said, my own country Jamaica doesn't give me the respect and I'm happy they don't because other people outside do and they appreciate me more than my own country," he said. (0:45)
This brought about a huge backlash from Jamaican fans and his statements became a topic of discussion on social media. Yohan Blake took to Instagram to address the situation and speak of the heavy backlash he received after the interview.
" Dogs don’t bark at parked cars," read the caption of his post.
"Recently, I spoke about how I feel. It was mixed emotions, to be honest with everybody but, I am saying this to say that, if you stay quiet, they say that you are quiet, weak, you're pitiful. If you speak out, they say you're loud, you're vulgar and you don't know what you're saying," he said.
" If you find yourself not being criticized about or not being talked about or something that mean you're doing something bad," he added.
Moreover, he urged his fans to believe in their dreams and chase them.
Yohan Blake speaks on missing out on a spot in the Jamaican Team for the Paris Olympics

Yohan Blake announced earlier this year that the Paris Olympics would be his final appearance in the prestigious quadrennial games before he bid adieu to his illustrious career. However, after struggling with multiple injuries in the 2024 season, Blake failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
He spoke about his injuries in the Olympic season in his latest interview.
"This season has been rough, I have been battling a lot of injuries, I'm just fighting because I know how to get up. My back has been bothering me, I can't get up and sprint. I also have muscle and some old injuries. I have also been battling with my hamstring," Yohan Blake said of his injuries," he said.
Despite the setback, Blake is determined to keep on fighting as he looks out for various pursuits.
