Noah Lyles' fiance Junelle Bromfield opened up about the moment she got to know that the athlete had tested positive for COVID-19 at the Paris Olympics ahead of the men's 200m finals. The Jamaican athlete revealed how it left a profound impact on Lyles' Olympic campaign when he was in peak form.

Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the men's 100m after a close photo finish with Jamaica's Kishane Thompson, thereby clinching the victory with a margin of 0.005s. He was slated to compete in the men's 200m finals and was one of the top prospects for the Olympic crown considering his unbeaten streak in the event over the last three years.

However, tragedy struck Lyles as he could not push through towards the end of the 200m finals and finished third. Soon after the race, Noah Lyles was seen struggling and was taken out of a wheelchair by authorities. It was later revealed by the USATF that Lyles had tested positive for COVID-19 before the race but ultimately decided to compete in the finals of the men's 200m.

Bromfield, spoke about the moment she got to know about the American athlete's condition. She opened up in the second part of Netflix's hit docu-series 'Sprint' featuring multiple star athletes as they chased the ultimate dream of winning the gold medal in the French Capital.

" He texts me,' I have COVID' and everything just went spiraling out," she said.

Lyles spoke about the night that followed after his positive test and said:

“Junelle said I was coughing through the night last night. I thought I had a good sleep but she said she had to keep moving me through the night to make sure I would stop coughing. I am more proud of myself than anything. Coming out and winning the bronze medal after three days with Covid … it has been a wild Olympics.”

Noah Lyles spoke about his decision to compete in the men's 200m finals in an interview with ESPN's famous show 'Sports Center'. The American expressed that he did not want his competitors to know about his positive diagnosis which is the reason he kept the news under wraps.

"It was definitely the fatigue. You know, I did not have my path and my step. You know, I was kind of in a fake it-to-make-it scenario. I did not want people to think that I was down for the count. I wanted him to still think that I wanted them to still think that I was going to make anything happen regardless of the fact that what was going on and I just had to keep telling myself that we can go through this, we can get through this," he said. He opted out of the men's 4x100m relay and concluded one of the most successful seasons of his career with two Olympic medals which included one gold medal and one bronze medal.
