Preparing to participate in her fourth Summer Games in Paris, American swimming icon Katie Ledecky once made headlines for swimming in a non-competitive heat with a glass of chocolate milkshake on her head in August 2020.She placed the glass on her head and swam 50 meters from end to end of the pool. To keep her head straight, she used a pipe for breathing. Upon touching the finishing wall, she lifted the glass from her head, took a sip, and completed the challenge. The challenge was actually done to promote the “Got Milk?” campaign, which was launched at the time. The Got Milk? team asked Katie Ledecky if she could come up with something fun in the pool while promoting their campaign. Talking about her viral stunt at the time, Katie Ledecky said (via The Washington Post):"I think a lot of people see it, and they of course think that I’m trying not to drop the cup. But I was also trying not to get any water in the cup because I wanted to drink it afterwards. I didn’t want to ruin the milk."How Katie Ledecky did not spill the milk during the challenge2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials: Swimming, Day 8Katie Ledecky's video went viral back in the day, amassing more than 4 million views, 33,000 likes, and over seven thousand reposts on X (formerly Twitter). In addition to that, the clip got more than 3 million views on TikTok as well.Fans wondered how she kept her head so steady without spilling the glass or even a drop from it. The secret was her short hair, which she tucked inside a swim cap that created a stable platform for the glass. Speaking about which, the swimmer said (via The Washington Post):"I really wasn’t sure it would even work. I didn’t know if it’d sit on my head."However, Katie Ledecky had rehearsed the stunt with an empty cup before doing the actual trick in a single take.Ledecky has been a force to be reckoned with in women's swimming for several years. She has won seven Olympic golds and three silvers in her three appearances in the event. At the recently concluded US Olympic Trials in June at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ledecky qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m freestyle events and became the only ninth swimmer from the United States to qualify for at least four Olympic events.
