Mikaela Shiffrin fulfilled her long-standing wish with her mother as she arrived in Finland for the World Cup Levi 2024. The American skier was mesmerized by the beauty of the Northern lights and expressed her joy in witnessing it with her mother as she prepared for her next World Cup appearance.
Shiffrin made her season debut at the World Cup opener in Sölden, Austria on October 26, 2024. She finished fifth overall in the women's giant slalom. The American athlete spoke to the media after the race and revealed that she struggled with her timing however, she was happy to return to the circuit.
The 29-year-old then traveled to Levi, Finland, for the World Cup and fulfilled a 20-year-long wish. Shiffrin took to Instagram to share her elation at witnessing the northern lights.
"Been a 20-year-long wish to see the northern lights. (Since I saw Balto for the first time.) And tonight, it FINALLY happened🫨😭 ," she wrote.
The American Alpine skier shared a video of the moment with fans on social media.
"Oh my god. Mom, look straight up. Look at it guys. What? Oh my god. I think I'm going to cry. This has actually been my wish since I saw Balto. Oh, my goodness," she could be heard saying in the video.

Mikaela Shiffrin returned to the Alpine skiing season after facing multiple setbacks in the previous season, which included a downhill crash in Italy that led her to undergo rehabilitation to get back on the slopes. The American skier made the tough decision to skip downhill races in her appearances in the 2024/25 season.
She spoke about her mindset and change in her preparation for this season as she aims to etch her name in history books by registering her 100th World Cup Win.
"My mentality for so long has been trying to avoid those questions. I've talked to you all about this, like, 'the numbers again, the records, I don't want to talk about the records, I don't think about the records'. Even though that may be true, bringing energy to the sport is never a bad thing," she wrote.
"Whether you want to talk about records or statistics or anything, and I feel energized right now when people bring up 100. I think it's incredible that people are still following along this journey and excited about it," she added.
Mikaela Shiffrin will be making her second World Cup appearance of this season in Levi, Finland on November 16 and17, 2024
