German athlete Alica Schmidt recently faced heartbreak at the Paris Olympics and has opened up about the lessons she learned there. She competed in the 4x400m relay and 4x400m relay mixed at the Games.

The 25-year-old did not have the expected experience in Paris, as she fell short of her Olympic dreams, failing to make it to the finals of the women's 4x400m relay final. She, alongside her team, Skadi Schier, Mayer, and Demes, finished seventh in Heat 2 of the event, leading to their disqualification from the event finals.

Following this, the German team in the mixed 4x400m relay event, including Schmidt, Sanders, Demes, and Bredau, faced a similar fate as the women's 4x400m relay. They ended up in the seventh position in Heat 2 of the race, which shattered the team's Olympic dream.

A few days after this heartbreaking experience at the Paris Olympics, Alica Schmidt shared a bunch of pictures of her time at the event and added a heartfelt note, revealing the lessons she learned.

"The Olympics are not just about winning medals," Schmidt wrote. "It‘s about being alongside inspiring athletes while competing at the highest level. Showing ambition, celebrating diversity and people no matter who they are and where they are from."

She added:

"The past weeks were an emotional rollercoaster and I was able to learn a lot. As an athlete I am still not where I want to be and maybe I will never be. But the one thing that is for sure: I will never stop trying and figuring out ways to improve. I love taking you guys with me on this journey and hope to inspire young athletes and show how amazing this sport can be!"
