Earlier this year, Simone Biles addressed the backlash her husband and NFL safety Jonathan Owens received for his comments during an episode of 'The Pivot' podcast last year. She claimed that Owens was the best person she could ever find and heaped praise on her partner amid the criticism he was receiving online.
After Simone Biles clinched her sixth World title at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, she started frequenting her husband's NFL matches. Jonathan Owens, the then-Green Bay Packers safety, appeared in an episode of The Pivot podcast in December 2023 and discussed his relationship with his wife Simone Biles.
Revealing how their romance sparked, Owens said that Biles texted him first and even drove down to meet him in Houston during the lockdown in 2020. When host Ryan Clark asked whether Owens was the catch in the relationship, the latter asserted, saying:
"I always say we the (men) catch," Owens said (at 11:27).
For his comment, Owens faced backlash from fans, with some even urging Biles to get a divorce. In April 2024, the American gymnast addressed the criticism and expressed her love for Owens in an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast (as quoted by Today):
"So, whenever he did that interview, I thought everything was OK. And then I go on Twitter, and everybody's like, divorce this man, he's mean. I'm like, he's the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on. Truly, I've never met a man like him," she said.
The couple officially got married on April 22, and hosted the social ceremony the next month in Cabo, Mexico on May 6, 2023.
Jonathan Owens once revealed that he and Simone Biles share a common love for food

Simone Biles walked home from the Paris Olympics with gold medals in the team, vault, and individual competitions. Next, she performed on the 30-city Gold Over America tour, which concluded on November 3, 2024. As her husband Jonathan Owens began his NFL season with the Chicago Bears, the Olympian started staying with him in Chicago after a long time away from each other.
In an interview with Fox 32 Chicago in November this year, Owens expressed joy at finally living with his wife under the same roof after marriage.
"I mean last year she was still training and I was up in Green Bay so we weren't able to be together as much. This is really like our first time getting being able to just be married and I come home and it's a food cooking and it smells good," he said (at 7:20).
He then talked about their mutual love for food and how they're always hunting for a good restaurant.
"It's just been great just to be able to be married and obviously we are in Chicago so it's a good city, bunch of good food and we're big foodies. So we are always making a new list of places to go and figuring out new restaurants, so it's been amazing," Owens added (7:44).
Biles' eponymous Netflix docuseries, Simone Biles Rising 2, was released on the OTT platform on October 25, 2024.
