In Pictures: Olympic champion Carlos Yulo steals the show with girlfriend Chloe San Jose as he receives the Philippines Athlete of The Year award

Double Paris Olympics champion Carlos Yulo was at the center of the limelight during Esquire Philippines' annual awards function with his girlfriend Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose. The gymnast received Athlete of the Year for his incredible 2024 season.

Yulo became the first Filipino male gymnast in history to win a medal at the Olympic Games following his gold medal victory in the floor exercise competition. He scored an impressive 15.000 for his breathtaking routine to beat defending champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel by 0.034.

It marked the second Olympic gold medal for the Philipines in their Olympic history and Yulo would go on to win their third on the following day. He scored 15.166 for the win, becoming the only Philipines athlete in history to win two Olympic gold medals.

Yulo received a warm welcome on his arrival back home and was showered with several luxurious gifts ranging from houses to free flights. He has now been honored with the Athlete of the Year award by Esquire Philippines. The 24-year-old was present at the ceremony on Tuesday, November 18, with his girlfriend Chloe San Jose. On Saturday, November 30, Carlos Yulo shared glimpses of their time at the awards show and expressed gratitude for being honored with the award.

"What a great honor, I'm so happy—many more thanks to Esquire team and of course to Lord God for the talent He has given."

The Filipino gymnast has been dating San Jose for over four years and has credited her for helping him through tough times.

Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose first interacted through social media platform X, formerly Twitter, in 2020, and it was the content creator who made the first move. They met in person two years later at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, where Yulo won five gold medals.

The Filipino gymnast has credited his girlfriend for supporting him through times. During an interview with 'Mel Tiangco', he said (as quoted by GMA Lifestyle):

"There were trying times, but I am really grateful that Chloe did not give up on me and our dreams. My mental health and well-being were taken care of and I got to know myself better, and Chloe was there through ups and downs"

He also expressed gratitude to God for making him meet her.

"I am thankful for Chloe and I'm also thankful to God that he let me meet Chloe. The support, trust, and love I receive from Chloe are unbelievable," the 24-year-old added
