To add more to her disappointment, the critics started to question her abilities for not winning a medal at the event, followed by negligence from her fellow athletes, who began to distance themselves from her due to the experience she gained, which ultimately led to McLaughlin-Levrone considering quitting the sport.

The 24-year-old made the aforementioned claims to L'OFFICIEL in 2021 and stated:

"I still had one more year of high school after Rio, and there was jealousy from other girls because of the experience I had, and it became a lot—to the point where it made me not want to run track anymore."

She further added that she also came to know that success has two sides to it; it can be amazing at times, but it also comes with 'backlash.'

However, she believes that track does not define her personality, and she realized this during COVID when she was on her own.

"Being home by myself helped me grow in my faith, which helped me get through the pandemic, And it helped me understand that my identity is not found in whether I win or lose a race, what place I get, or how much money I make. Track is not who I am, it’s what I do." She told L'OFFICIEL

When away from the track, the runner could be spotted indulging in her various hobbies of baking, writing poetry, listening to music, watching movies, etc., and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone believes that she is a comedian as well.
