Karsten Warholm and Mondo Duplantis went head to head in the 100m in Zürich, fueling great anticipation among fans. The 400m world record holder expressed that he had a great time going out of the way and competing in the 100m which is completely different from his pet event, the 400m hurdles.
The 100m clash between the two athletes witnessed a fully packed stadium with many athletes including Sha'Carri Richardson, Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, and Dina Asher-Smith among others in attendance to watch the race. Mondo Duplantis clocked 10.37s to clinch the victory. Moreover, the Swedish athlete emulated Sha'Carri Richardson's viral 'look over' ahead of the finish line from the 4x100m relay final at the Paris Olympics.
Karsten Warholm spoke about the highly anticipated clash in a post-race interview.
" I didn't want to lose honestly. One of us had to lose and I think it would hurt just as much for Mondo as it would hurt for me. So, you know it is a tough loss but it's also an event in a venue that I am extremely proud of so, it was fun. It was really fun, especially in the beginning. It wasn’t that fun after crossing the finish line second, I’ll say that. But all the way building up to it felt like something special and something new that I really enjoyed. If he wants a rematch, we will do it obviously," he said.
