The two-time Olympic gold medalist Lilly King solidified her place for the third Olympics of her career after she emerged victorious in the Women's 100m Backstroke finals at the U.S Olympic Swimming Trials. This victory was even more special for the 27-year-old as it came in front of her home crowd in Indiana.
King, the world record holder in the Women's 100m Backstroke event, was one of the favorites for the Olympic berth. The Indiana native registered a time of 1:05.43s to finish atop the podium at the trials.
Even though it was far from her world record timing set in 2017 (1:04.13), it was enough to see her through to the quadrennial event. The second swimmer to qualify for the 100m Breaststroke event was the University of Virginia swimmer Emma Weber (1:06.10). She beat the two-time Olympic gold medalist Lydia Jacoby by a fine margin of 0.27 seconds to clinch the second position in the finals of the tournament.
