Lindsey Horan, Sofia Huerta, and other USWNT players react as Ellie Carpenter marries Daniëlle van de Donk in dreamy wedding

Lindsey Horan, Sofia Huerta, and other USWNT athletes reacted to the Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter and Dutch footballer Danielle van de Donk's wedding. The couple made their relationship public in 2023 and announced their engagement earlier this year.

Carpenter and Van de Donk were teammates for the French soccer club Olympique Lyonnais. Recently, on Wednesday, June 11, Carpenter shared glimpses of their wedding at scenic Chateau Hermitage de Combas in France on Instagram.

Both wore white gowns, Carpenter in a strapless dress with a veil and Van de Donk in a floral lace gown with thin straps. The post included a heartfelt caption that read:

“I choose you. I will always choose you. 🤍”

The post gained reactions from their teammates and other soccer players, including USWNT’s Lindsey Horan.

Midfielder and USWNT captain Lindsey Horan wrote,

My Bbys 😍😍😍😍 are sooo beautiful !!!!!

Sofia Huerta, who has earned over 30 caps with the USWNT, added:

“Congrats, beauties”

USWNT’s Catarina Macario added,

“You two are goddesses.”

Lauren Barnes, who was called up for the USWNT in 2016, commented:

In 2024, the USWNT secured its fifth Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games with a 1–0 victory over Brazil. The team began their 2024 season by winning the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup in March, followed by their seventh SheBelieves Cup title in April.

Lindsey Horan shares her thoughts on FIFA Best Awards Nomination

Lindsey Horan, alongside other USWNT athletes Naomi Girma, Sophia Smith, Trinity Rodman, Alyssa Naeher, and Mallory Swanson, was nominated for the 2024 Best FIFA Women’s Player award.

Horan expressed her pride in nominations:

"I think that's [six players receiving nominations] the biggest thing for me. I think a lot of the time you don't see a lot of U.S. players involved in that, and I think looking at the Ballon d'Or nominations, I was really happy because I'm like, it just hasn't been like that. We haven't had a lot of players in there, and I would always ask why.”(via ESPN)

"I think we've had some world-class performances, not just in the Olympics, but in NWSL as well from those players that were nominated, and I'm so proud of my teammates as well that are nominated in this, and obviously it is always an honour for me to be in that mix and with some of the best players in the world," she added.

USWNT wrapped up the last year with 18 wins, reclaiming the No. 1 spot in the global rankings. The team is now continuing its preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, following their second-place finish at the SheBelieves Cup.
