Lindsey Vonn expressed her excitement with two words as she rejoined the US Ski Team earlier this month. Her highly anticipated return marks a significant moment in her career following her professional retirement in 2019.

The four-time Olympic medalist retired from professional skiing in 2019 due to numerous injuries, including knee damage, a broken arm, and spinal and nerve issues. While stepping away from her sports career, she continued to mentor younger athletes through her 'Lindsey Vonn Foundation.'

After a successful knee surgery which has allowed her to train pain-free, Vonn recently announced her comeback for the 2024-2025 season.

Vonn reshared an Instagram story from her teammate Tricia Mangan, a fellow member of the US Alpine Ski Team. Mangan shared a photo of the Olympic champion with her teammates, celebrating their shared journey on Team USA.

In November 2024, following her announcement of a comeback, Vonn had shared her thoughts, saying:

"Getting back to skiing without pain has been an incredible journey. "I am looking forward to being back with the Stifel US Ski Team and to continue to share my knowledge of the sports with these incredible women." (usskiandsnowboard.org)

In another interview with the New York Times, Vonn shared her excitement, saying:

"I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself because I have quite a few hoops to jump through. Obviously, I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't hope to be racing. I have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I don't know".

Vonn will compete in the World Cup in St. Moritz, Switzerland, from December 21-22, 2024, as a forerunner.

Lindsey Vonn won a gold medal and two bronze medals at the Winter Olympics (2010, 2018) and clinched a record 20 World Cup globes (2008-2016).

This year, after announcing her comeback following a successful knee surgery, Vonn discussed her potential participation in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. She has touched upon the difficulty of returning to peak form after such a long break.

"I've always enjoyed racing in Cortina, and I've had a lot of success in Cortina, I don't know what the next few months and the next year and a half hold for me. So I can't say right now if it's a possibility", she said. (nytimes.com)

She further added:

"But I think everyone knows how much I love Cortina."

The 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina will take place from February 6 to 22.
