Michael Phelps recently reacted to his iconic victory in the men's 100m butterfly event. Phelps outdid Serbia's Milorad Cavic by a hundredth of a second, winning his seventh Olympic gold medal.
When a post reminisced about this win, Phelps reshared it on his Instagram story with the following caption,
"Good half stroke"
The now 39-year-old not only won the race but also established a new Olympic record with a time of 50.58 seconds. Cavic established a new European record with a time of 50.59 seconds. With this victory, Michael Phelps equaled the record set by Mark Spitz at the Munich Olympics in 1972. Spitz had won a total of seven Olympic gold medals at Munich, the highest for any individual athlete.
Phelps had nearly broken the record at the quadrennial event in Athens in 2004 but ended up winning 6 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. However, at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, he left no stone unturned and won eight Olympic gold medals, one for each event he participated in, establishing himself as one of the greatest swimmers of all time.
