Alpine skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin has started training for the 2024-25 season, which is scheduled to start later this year in Autumn.

Shiffrin was phenomenal in the last season. Despite a series of injuries, the 29-year-old returned with the same fervor and excitement every time to claim the podiums. She extended her record of most World Cup victories to 97 wins in her last race of the season and was also tied with legends like Lindsey Vonn and Ingemar Stenmark for most individual globes in a discipline.

Shiffrin won the slalom globe by a big margin. She was equally poised for victories in overall and Giant Slalom. However, the downhill crash on January 26 ruined her plans.

She missed out on over 10 races, which made it impossible for her to reclaim her position on the cup standings. But the 2x Olympic champion is now gearing up for redemption as she starts training for the new season.

Mikaela Shiffrin announced on Instagram that she had started the training camp in her hometown, Colorado. She shared a couple of pictures from her training on the Colorado slopes. Shiffrin posed by herself for selfies over the skiing course, which seemed emptier. The 29-year-old expressed that having the camp at home was ‘good for the soul'.

"Training camp at home is good for the soul🩵," she wrote.

Throughout the 2023-24 alpine skiing season, Petra Vloha, Federica Brignone, and Lara Gut-Behrami emerged as the top three competitors for Mikaela Shiffrin. It was Vloha in earlier stages who even defeated Shiffrin a couple of times. However, the Slovakian was ruled out from the season after a devastating crash.

Gut-Behrami and Brignone kept pushing Shiffrin, and when she fell to a devastating crash in January, the two skiers moved up on the standings. The American legend ultimately lost the race in overall standings as Gut-Behrami won her second title with 1716 points.

Brignone came second with 1581 points, while Shiffrin finished third with 1409 points. The 2x Olympic champion did manage to hold on to her slalom globe.

As the season concluded in March, Mikaela Shiffrin expressed excitement to battle again next year in a social media post.

"What a whirlwind szn! Congrats to both Lara & @FedeBrignone who skied consistently impressive all season long! Absolutely earned and deserved. It was inspiring to say the least, & I’m looking forward to battling with them & the rest of the women next year," Shiffrin wrote.
