Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus opened up about her opportunity to carry the prestigious Lexus Melbourne Cup. This news comes three weeks after Titmus' impressive 2024 Olympic campaign in Paris.
Established in 1861, the Melbourne Cup is a major horseriding race in Australia and is held annually every year at the Flemington Racecourse. Titmus was named as the event ambassador for the 2024 edition of this event. During the race day, the 25-year-old swimmer donned a red dress by 'Aje' and carried a bag from "Forever New".
Titmus took to her Instagram handle to share numerous pictures from her time at the Melbourne Cup. She also reacted to a video of her carrying the cup during the Carnival. The 24-year-old shared this video on her story and mentioned that this was one of the most cherished moments of her career.
"One of the highest honors for me to date. Delivering the @lexusAustralia Melbourne Cup into the mounting yard before the race that stops the nation," she wrote.
Ariarne Titmus registered an impressive performance for Australia at the 2024 Paris quadrennial event. She won four medals including two golds in the 400m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle events. Titmus won two silver laurels in 800m and 200m freestyle. During the 800m freestyle event, the Tasmania native also registered an Oceanian record with a clock time of 8:12.29s.
Ariarne Titmus opens up about her love for horse riding
Ariarne Titmus recently opened up about the love she had for horse riding in her youth days. This came just a few days after she was named as the ambassador of the Melbourne Cup.
In an interview, Titmus said she indulged in horse riding and jumping competitions from a young age before her love for swimming took over. She also expressed her excitement for an opportunity to be around horses once more at the Victoria Racing Club. She said (via Yahoo Sports Australia):
"Horse riding was my first love. I grew up around horses and competed in dressage and show jumping competitions from the age of seven before swimming took centre stage. I have such fond memories of my riding days and am excited to be working with horses and the Victoria Racing Club again."
During the interview, Ariarne Titmus also termed the Melbourne Cup as the perfect combination of sport and fashion.
