Short Course World Championships Day 1 results: Kate Douglass & Summer McIntosh set world records, Gretchen Walsh breaks global mark twice

Day 1 of the 2024 Short Course World Championships witnessed multiple world records being shattered. In the individual events, Summer McIntosh and Kate Douglass stole the spotlight with their gold-medal victories by smashing the world record in the women’s 400m freestyle and 200m medley events.

Gretchen Walsh was also one of the best performers on Day 1 as she smashed the world records twice - first in the heats (24.02) and second in the semi-finals (23.94). Additionally, the USA had an outstanding first day in team events as they established global records in both the men’s and women’s 4x100m freestyle relays.

Some other standout athletes on Day 1 at the Short Course World Championships were Shaine Casas, Ahmed Jaouadi, Regan Smith, Hubert Kos and Noe Ponti. It is worth noting that the tournament, which began on December 10, will conclude on December 15.
