Mondo Duplantis is at the pinnacle of his vocation after achieving his eighth world record at the Wanda Diamond League. Along with being an iconic pole vaulter, Duplantis has also tried his hands at golf. He got through the COVID-19 pandemic using golf and with that experience, he compared pole vaulting to golf.

Before surpassing his own world record, he spoke in an interview with CitiusMag, where he opened up about how Pole Vault is similar to golf. He stated that the way athletes try to find numbers in golf is similar to how they pick poles and run distance in pole vault.

"A little bit of it is kind of similar to golf to where you're trying to find your numbers. You're trying to pick what pole to use, where to run from and you're trying to get those numbers right with your coach, who is pretty much and your caddy."

Mondo Duplantis shared this comparison days before clearing 6.24m and making a new world record. Along with this, he also broke down some points that gave more insights into the sport.

While comparing pole vault with golf, Mondo Duplantis also shared multiple other insights about the sport. He shared how pole vault athletes practice speed, his key workouts, and multiple other things.

When asked about practicing speed, he said that running fast is the only way to maintain speed. Sprint training is extremely important for pole vaulters.

"The only way to be fast and to run fast is to run fast" said Duplantis. "You have to train fast. You have to do sprint training while you're running with high intensity. That's the only way to get faster. You have to be running with a lot of speed a lot. I do a lot of sprint training."

Mondo Duplantis also discussed his key workouts with Citius Mag. He shared that he runs 150s, does sled work and spoke about blocks and short accelerations.

"The longest I run is 150s. Everything is fast. I do sled work. I do in-and-outs, where you have the cones every 15m and it's like sprint-float-sprint-float. I have other sprint work, where it's blocks and other short accelerations. The most important thing depending on what event and what you do is to run fast, you have to be running fast."

After Mondo Duplantis achieved his 8th world record, his fans and pole vault enthusiasts are eyeing him for an incredible show at the Paris Olympics 2024.
