Olympic champion Simone Biles is once again in the limelight after the US gymnastics trials. She won the Best Comeback Performance at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, days after booking her berth in Paris, with her remarkable performances.
Along with a riveting career, Biles has also faced her share of adversities, especially during the Tokyo Olympics. She withdrew from various events at the delayed 2020 Summer Games, citing a mental health issue called 'Twisties', which is a sudden mental inability for the gymnasts that blocks them from performing any trick.
Following this, she took a two-year long hiatus from competitive gymnastics and returned before the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. She made an incredible comeback after this break by winning four gold medals and one silver in Antwerp. She elevated her overall Olympic and World medal count to 37 post her comeback.
She has qualified for the Paris Olympics after scoring the highest score of 117.225 in the trials and is now on her way to represent the US for the third time on an Olympic stage. Her mother, Nellie Biles, has congratulated the gymnast on X for winning the Best Comeback Performance of the Year at the ESPY Awards 2024.

This is the second award Simone Biles has won this year. Earlier, she also won the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award in April 2024.
Simone Biles opens up about her comeback in new docuseries
Olympian Simone Biles opened up about her comeback in the trailer of her upcoming new documentary with Netflix, 'Simone Biles Rising', which will be released on July 17. Here, the four-time Olympic gold medalist shared her journey and all the trials and tribulation she has faced throughout her career. Along with this, she also shared all about her comeback.
"I wanted to quit like 500,000 times and I would have if it weren't for my people," Biles said. "I knew it would be a long journey, but to me, it wasn't done. I'm going for another Olymoic run, I never thought I'd be at this phase still doing it and I feel very grateful, I get to write my own ending."
Biles proved her prospect as one of the greatest gymnasts at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she won four gold medals and one bronze medal, and in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics too, where she won one silver and one bronze medal. The 27-year-old will next be seen competing in Paris, which is slated for July 26- August 11.
