Noah Lyles roared at the Atlanta City Games on May 18, 2024. He produced a dominant performance in the 150m event, clocking 14.41 seconds, thus equaling Tyson Gay's American record.

Lyles triumphed over Zharnel Hughes, pushing him to the second position with a time of 14.66 seconds, while third position was bagged by Alexander Ogando with a time of 14.86 seconds

Although Lyles couldn't achieve his goal of surpassing Usain Bolt's 14.35 seconds which was set in 2009, the world champion is now just 0.06s behind the Jamaican legend's time. Lyles also holds an American record in the 200m event. He clocked a 19.31 at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene

The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist took to his X account and beamed with pride for scoring another record. The tweet carried,

"Another American Record secured. 14.41."

A video of Lyles' dominating performance at the 150m event in Atlanta was also shared.

In a post-race interview at the Adidas Atlanta City Games 2024, Noah Lyles opened up about settling for a world record and his experience defending his 150m title in this competition. Feeling stoked about the race, Lyles expressed,

"I would say 100% a rain of dominance. I tied the American record, shoot for the world record, but I mean I guess, I'll settle for Tyson's American record. I ain't going to lie that track was real bouncy but I knew that going in so just had to deal with it."

Noah Lyles has had an incredible year till now. From the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix to the US Indoor Championships and recently, to the Atlanta City Games, the athlete has produced some impressive performances. He has won eight races so far in 2024 across both indoors and outdoors.

The American's best 100m timing as of now this season is 9.96 seconds, which he attained at the Bermuda Grand Prix

The only time Lyles did not win an individual event so far in 2024 was the 60m event at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, as Christian Coleman narrowly edged him out.

Lyles is currently the No. 1 in the world rankings for 100m and 200m while being third overall behind pole-vaulter Armand Duplantis and shot put heavyweight Ryan Crouser.
