The NBC show features a wide array of performers competing for the title of America’s next great talent. The format includes auditions, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, with contestants vying for a top prize of $1 million and a headlining show in Las Vegas.

Among the standout acts this season is AIRFOOTWORKS, a dance group that has captured significant attention with their unique performances. Known for their innovative "air dance" style, the group has made a remarkable impact on America’s Got Talent, culminating in a notable Golden Buzzer moment.

America’s Got Talent fame AIRFOOTWORKS: From Japan to the US

Choreographer Takashi Jonishi, who previously worked with the highly regarded dance crew World Order, formed AIRFOOTWORKS. Dubbed "the world's first airdate group," these dancers perform to give the impression that they are "weightless," as described on their official website. They combine athleticism with imaginative choreography to give the impression that they are walking in midair.

Before competing on America's Got Talent, AIRFOOTWORKS succeeded in Japan, advancing to the Japan's Got Talent season 1 finals in 2023. Their unique style and inventive approach to dancing made them stand-out performers in the Japanese talent competition, paving the way for their American premiere.

AIRFOOTWORKS's performance evolution

AIRFOOTWORKS was formed by Takashi Jonishi during his recuperation from a back injury. Thanks to an exercise DVD, they developed their own style of air dancing.

During the audition stages of America's Got Talent, AIRFOOTWORKS debuted with a performance that astounded the judges and crowd. Their air dance routine performed to Justin Bieber's Where Are U Now. They combined choreography with an otherworldly visual effect to give the impression that they were floating in mid-air.

After receiving a resounding applause for their performance, Simon Cowell quickly pressed the Golden Buzzer, praising their creativity and accuracy. This moment cemented AIRFOOTWORKS's place in the Live Shows.

The Golden Buzzer moment in America's Got Talent

On August 20, 2024, AIRFOOTWORKS performed a set to Ed Sheeran's Celestial during the second quarterfinal episode of America's Got Talent season 19. They received a standing ovation for their routine, which delighted the judges and the crowd alike. They displayed a unique style of air dancing - blending complex choreography with the appearance of floating movement.

After their outstanding act, Simon Cowell pressed the Golden Buzzer even though Howie Mandel was supposed to do so that night. Cowell made a lighthearted comment about maybe "getting fired." Meanwhile, Mandel looked surprised and a little pissed off, saying he had the right to use the buzzer. This Golden Buzzer sent the performers straight to the finals.

Don’t miss the chance to see AIRFOOTWORKS and other incredible acts live! Tune in to America’s Got Talent every Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC to catch all the latest performances and updates.
