Georgie Brasso competed against Christiaan De Vries and Dylan Bachelet and emerged as the winner by the end of The Great British Bake Off 2024 finale. After the win, she shared her thoughts on the achievement and said that she had to overcome her self-doubt through the series in order to make it to the top. She said:
"This is mad! I have won it, I can’t believe it. This is just incredible. I can’t believe that I have won The Great British Bake Off. It just means everything, I have always been so self doubtful. I have got this and that wrong with me and think I can’t do it, and you make excuses. For once I thought I am just going to go for it and put my everything into it."
Georgie further added that she was "so proud" of herself because she proved that she could do it and now she was the winner.
The Great British Bake Off 2024 winner described her winning announcement as "surreal," as she couldn’t quite believe it. All of her family was present at the set and it was an emotional moment when she was handed the trophy and flowers.
"My legs went to jelly and at the same time my daughter came to hug me, and of course it completely floored both of us, it was very funny and we were all laughing. So a lot of happy emotion was flying around," Georgie added.
As for what she learned from the show, Georgie recognized the importance of presenting her true self. She shared that she doesn't need to "pretend or mask" who she is and learned to "trust and believe" in herself.
"I have learned that I can do anything I set my mind to, and there are so many genuine people in the world who want the best for you - work hard and it will pay off," she added.
Concluding her statement, The Great British Bake Off contestant expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her husband and children for their patience and support during her time away from home while participating in the show. She also thanked her family who helped look after the kids and shared that she felt "incredible to have such a good support system."
Having struggled with ADHD, PTSD, and post-natal depression for a long time, Georgie hoped people with mental health issues would see this show and believe that they could "conquer" their fears and stay positive.
