Season 5 of Love After Lockup released episode 49, High Risk Lies, on Friday, November 29, 2024. The segment saw Melissa visit a jeweler to check the authenticity of the engagement ring Louie gave her. She started complaining, convinced Louie had procured it illegally after the jeweler said the ring did not have the stamp to specify the metal type it was made of.
He explained that making jewelry without a stamp was unlawful in their industry. Although he reassured her that the ring was pure 14-carat white gold, Melissa was unconvinced. Her friend, Fran, urged Melissa to investigate where and how Louie got the money for the ring.
Love After Lockup fans took to X to criticize Melissa for not trusting Louie and going behind his back to get the engagement ring tested. They demeaned her for never being satisfied with anything Louie did for her.

Love After Lockup: Melissa worries Louie will end up in jail
Melissa visited a jeweler to check if her engagement ring was genuine after her friends suspected how Louie had procured the money to purchase it. She started worrying when Cory, the jeweler, revealed that the ring did not have the stamp all jewelry must have to specify the metal type it was made of.
"In the jewelry business, it is required and it's actually illegal not to have the stamping inside the ring that signifies what metal type and what purity it is as well," Cory said.
The cast member reassured her that his test revealed the ring was 14-carat white gold, however, Melissa was unconvinced. Cory advised Melissa to visit her jeweler to ask where the markings were since it was not a "critically crucial" issue.
Fran and Melissa worried Louie got the ring from a "back alley" using unlawful methods. In the meantime, Cory mentioned that the appraisal came up to $24,000. While talking to the cameras, the Love After Lockup star expressed concern over the stamping situation and said:
"I wanna show him that I trust him to make decisions on his own and I don't want him to think I went behind his back but I also want to make sure that you bought my ring from an actual jeweler.
She confided in her friend that she was scared because she did not want Louie to get in trouble with the law. Melissa worried that Louie's 10 years of probation would go to waste if he ended up in jail for getting an illegal ring.
Later in the episode, the Love After Lockup star questioned Louie about the ring's origin, offending him. Louie was upset and disappointed to see Melissa struggle to trust him. He criticized her for believing her friends' words over his, saying it showed how little faith she had in their relationship.
