In a first of its kind, HBO Max premiered Roller Jam season 1, a new roller skating competition series. The first episode aired on Thursday, October 10, 2024, on Max. The series will have six episodes and 10 crews from across America, competing for a grand prize of $150,000. The finale is scheduled for November 14.
Hosted by singer and actress Jordin Sparks, the series has Olympian Johnny Weir and roller-skating legend Terrell Ferguson as judges. Celebrity guests include Pepa, Michelle Williams, Maureen McCormick, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Debbie Gibson, and Joanna Gaines.

Qualifier Round 1: Smells like Teen Spirit
In the first episode of Roller Jam season 1, the audience witnessed the prowess of five of the 10 teams. Pepa was the special guest for this episode, bringing in her expertise on 90s hip-hop to judge the skating crews. Pepa is a member of the 90s hip-hop group Salt-N-Pepa, known for their influential music and contributions to the genre.

Qualifier Round 2: Y2-SK8
This episode will decide the top eight of the 10 teams. The next five teams will perform and be judged by Michelle Williams, the 2000s star. Michelle Williams is a member of the Grammy Award-winning girl group Destiny's Child, acknowledged for their significant impact on R&B and pop music.

Episode 3: Skate to Skate Battles
The top eight teams will clash to make it to the top five. The celebrity guest will be Maureen McCormick, a 70s icon. Maureen McCormick is an actress recognized for her role as Marcia Brady on the classic television series The Brady Bunch.

Episode 4: Team Challenge: Go for Launch
The top five teams will be competing in the rink on classics from the 60s. This nostalgic ride will be judged by guest judge Marissa Jaret Winokur. Winokur is an actress and singer, best known for her Tony Award-winning role in the Broadway musical "Hairspray."

Episode 5: Team Challenge: Let’s Get Physical!
The legendary Debbie Gibson will be the celebrity guest at the semifinals of Roller Jam season 1. Debbie Gibson is a pop singer-songwriter and actress with hit songs in the late 1980s, including Only in My Dreams and Foolish Beat. The top four teams will bring the pop and color of the 1980s back to life in the roller skate arena.
Episode 5 airs on November 7, 2024.
Episode 6: Grand Finale
Executive producer Joanna Gaines will be the guest of the finale to crown the winners. Joanna Gaines is a co-founder of Magnolia Network, which focuses on home and lifestyle programs. The teams will be in a final ultimate battle to fight for the title of the first-ever Roller Jam champions of America.

Roller Jam Season 1 offers $150,000 prize to find best roller dancing squad in USA
Roller Jam Season 1 is produced by Magnolia Network, with Chip and Joanna Gaines as executive producers. Nikki Boella (America's Got Talent) and Brian Lando (A Very Brady Renovation) serve as producers. The teams, from cities like New York City, Nashville, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and St. Louis, will perform original routines in front of a live audience in each episode.
Apart from the cash prize of $150,000, the winners will also get $10,000 for their local skating rink. It is hoped that the star-studded cast, the variety of competitions, and the promising prize will present a good show.
