Joe Biden amidst the 2024 Presidential elections has decided to withdraw his tickets. In between this intense political shift, his cameo on Parks and Recreation has become a widely talked about topic.
The political satire comedy series that aired on NBC, saw Biden's on-screen cameo, after being a long-time crush of its protagonist Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. On the show, Leslie had described her ideal man as someone who has, "the brains of George Clooney and the body of Joe Biden." And her admiration for Biden was a running reference throughout the series.
Joe Biden first appeared on the sitcom back in 2012, in season 5 episode 7, titled, Leslie vs. April. He further appeared in a photograph in season 6 episode 4, titled, Doppelgängers, and finally in the series finale, titled One Last Ride.
What was Joe Biden's role in the show?
The co-creator of the show, Michael Schur discussed with Entertainment Tonight back in 2014 that the idea to have Biden as Leslie's crush came to them randomly but continued to stay and became a strong reference and eventually the creators of the show were able to get Biden for a cameo in season 5.
Biden made his Parks and Recreation cameo in season 5 episode 7, titled, Leslie vs. April. In the episode, Ben takes Leslie to the White House saying that he has a gift for her, for their engagement. When they enter the White House, which Leslie refers to as her future home, she sees Joe Biden, as a surprise.
This left Leslie completely speechless, along with the viewers, considering the sitcom had made references to Biden multiple times. Biden was campaigning as VP back then, and this sudden cameo brought a huge amount of excitement among the fans.
There was another mention of Biden in the show, though he didn't appear physically. In the fourth episode of season 6, named Doppelgängers, Leslie's best friend Ann is seen planning to leave Pawnee. To console her best friend, Ann gives her waffles and a photoshopped framed picture of Biden riding a horse shirtless.
After two more seasons, Biden finally comes back to the town of Pawnee, Indiana for the series finale in season 7. The very last episode titled, One Last Ride, aired on February 24, 2015, from the future in 2025.
It starts with a dinner party that Leslie and Ben are invited to, and its hosts turn out to be Joe and Jill Biden. They all share a hearty conversation, signaling that the couple had known each other through the years.
Fans react again to Joe Biden's cameo amidst withdrawal from the 2024 Presidential elections
Biden's withdrawal was highly unexpected and caused a very dramatic twist amid the nearing Presidential elections. Serving as the oldest president, Biden has suggested the current Vice President Kamala Haris to be the nominee for the 2024 presidential elections.
The fans of Parks and Recreation were heartily connected with Biden's cameo on the show, which showed a crossover between the real world and the fictional town of Pawnee. Besides Biden, senators such as Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe, and John McCain also made their cameos in the show.
Biden's Cameo was a topic of discussion during the 2020 elections and it again resurfaced especially after Biden's sudden withdrawal from candidacy. Biden's cameo in a sitcom added an extra humorous touch to his political image. Biden's fans, especially fans of the sitcom have varied reactions to it.
