Michelle Troconis’s role in the case
Soon after Jennifer Dulos vanished on May 24, 2019, Michelle Troconis became involved in the inquiry. At the time, she was dating Fotis Dulos, Jennifer's separated husband, in Farmington, Connecticut. When she disappeared, Jennifer was in the middle of a custody battle with Fotis and divorce proceedings.
As reported by NBC Connecticut, blood evidence was found in Jennifer's garage and her deserted SUV.
Police looked over surveillance tape that revealed Fotis Dulos and Troconis getting rid of trash bags in Hartford hours after Jennifer disappeared. According to CBS News, the DNA testing confirmed all three items found inside the bags—a shirt, gloves, and zip ties—were connected to Jennifer.
In 2019, Fotis and Troconis were taken into custody. She was later charged with tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit tampering with physical evidence, and obstruction of prosecution.
Prosecutors claimed she worked with Fotis to build a fake chronology and helped cover up the crime. The prosecution showed the jury the things taken from the garbage during the trial and provided evidence implying Troconis knew about the crime scene.
Legal actions and sentencing
According to Fox 59, the trial for Michelle Troconis started in January 2024, went on for 6 weeks. The jury convicted her on all charges. These included 2 counts of conspiracy to commit tampering with physical evidence, 2 counts of tampering with physical evidence, conspiracy to commit murder, and second-degree obstructing prosecution.
She was found guilty on March 1, 2024, and on May 31, 2024, she was sentenced to 20 years, 14.5 years to be served in prison. She is now challenging the verdict. During the sentencing, the family of Jennifer Dulos addressed the court.
As reported by NBC Connecticut, Carrie Luft, a friend of Jennider, stated on behalf of her family:
"For us, there is some relief in knowing the defendant will serve substantial time for her crimes, starting now."
As reported by NBC News, both Jennifer's son, Petros, and her mother, Gloria Farber, discussed the emotional toll the case has taken and the pain of not knowing where Jennifer's body is situated. Even though the primary suspect, Fotis Dulos, committed suicide in 2020, the legal proceedings for Troconis and others engaged continued.
Michelle Troconis' current status as of 2025
As of 2025, Michelle Troconis is in jail, serving her term in connection with Jennifer Dulos's disappearance. Her conviction is appealed, but no adjustments have been made to her sentence as of now. NBC Connecticut reports her legal team is actively contesting the sentence.
Jennifer's body, on the other hand, has never been discovered. Although law enforcement has pronounced her legally dead, the inquiry is still ongoing, and her family keeps looking for answers. An attorney and friend of Fotis Dulos, Kent Mawhinney, was another person first accused in the case.
Mawhinney was accused of helping give a false alibi and of allegedly setting up a burial site. The charge of conspiracy, however, was dropped for lack of evidence. According to CBS News, he confessed guilt to a misdemeanor for misleading authorities and was sentenced to 11 months, which he had already completed.
