On June 10, 2025, the Medina, Ohio-born personality took to X to announce that he and his wife, Stephanie "Steph" Patrick, have established a group in the United States Congress where "[content] creators can work with lawmakers to ensure legislation is timely and relevant for the internet age."

Describing his next career phase in politics as his "new quest," MatPat wrote:

"New quest: Washington DC! After two years of work, Steph and I have just launched the Creator Economy Caucus in the House of Representatives, a bipartisan group where creators can work alongside lawmakers to ensure legislation is timely and relevant for the Internet age. We've already got ~10 reps on board and we're just getting started. We'll eventually want to assemble creator advocates from around the country, so if you're interested in helping Washington understand our world, stay tuned here for more info!"

MatPat explains what the Creator Economy Caucus does

During the press conference where MatPat and his team announced the launch of the Creator Economy Caucus in the House of Representatives, the former YouTuber stated that the initiative can "help educate" legislators on topics such as online privacy, responsible use of AI, addictive algorithms, and children's online safety, among others.

He elaborated:

"Right now, we all know the major headline-grabbing topics, right? Everything from online privacy, responsible use of AI, addictive algorithms, protection of children on the internet, the list goes on and on. Creators are some of the first people, the first businesses, to actually have to confront these issues head-first on a daily basis. And it's our hope, through this Creator Caucus and through the conversations that it's going to inspire, that we can help educate legislators on these fast-moving, ever-evolving issues. So that legislation is timely and relevant."

MatPat also explained how the Creator Economy Caucus will help with issues that do not make "the most exciting headlines," saying:

"On the other hand, some of the issues that we're going to be speaking about aren't making the most exciting of headlines, but are equally important and critical to the survival of this budding ecosystem. Things like clarification of tax codes for a new category of entrepreneur, and access to small business support and resources."

MatPat made headlines last year, on October 23, 2024, when he announced his retirement from content creation for the second time and revealed the new host of his popular GTLive YouTube channel.
