With popular YouTuber IShowSpeed attempting the 24-hour backflip challenge on his October 8, 2024, stream, many people are showing interest in the current world record. For those wondering, the Guinness World Records category for the genre, officially titled "Most backwards somersaults in 24 hours" is currently held by Nico Scheicher.
The Austrian set the world record on May 4, 2019, and managed to perform an impressive 1,001 backflips or backward/back somersaults in a day.
Scheicher is a parkour enthusiast and athlete. His social media is full of photos and videos of him taking part in adventure sports such as mountain climbing, biking, and more. He has also shared the Guinness World Records plaque for his back somersaults record on his Instagram.
The record has stood at the top for over five years now, and IShowSpeed is attempting to break it in the ongoing October 8, 2024, stream in front of thousands of his followers. What's more, the YouTuber's attempt has garnered a lot of attention from around the world, with Guinness World Records also taking note by replying to IShowSpeed's post announcing the challenge.
In the post, the organization claimed that it was not informed the content creator would be attempting a new world record.
IShowSpeed takes nap after 400 back somersaults while attempting to break 24-hour backflip world record
Over the years, IShowSpeed has made a name for himself for being very athletic. His love of soccer and obsession with Cristiano Ronaldo were among the many reasons he became famous.
One of the signature tricks that showcase his athleticism is the backflip, and IShowSpeed has been known to do it almost spontaneously. During his Europe tour earlier this year (2024), he even backflipped into a canal while visiting Copenhagen, Denmark.
This is why fans were quite excited when he announced that he would attempt to break the world record for the most number of backflips done in 24 hours and surpass Nico Scheicher's number. Initially, the streamer was doing quite well, performing 100 back somersaults within half an hour.
However, a couple of hours into the October 8 stream, IShowSpeed realized that matching Nico Scheicher's world record would not be as easy as he thought. After doing his 461st backflip of the day, the content creator collapsed and could not bring himself to do another one.
After some deliberation, IShowSpeed realized he would have to take some rest to stand a chance at dethroning Nico Scheicher and decided to go to sleep. With some trepidation, he told his viewers that he was afraid his legs might lock up after he woke up from his nap:
"So if I wake up and my legs are locked, that's GGs chat. This challenge is over with. I am taking a huge risk."
However, fans will be happy to know that he did manage to continue doing backflips after he woke up. As of writing, almost half the day is left, and IShowSpeed has performed more than 600 backflips, gradually nearing Nico Scheicher's world record.
