Prominent internet personalities Imane "Pokimane," Rachell "Valkyrae," "Ludwig" Ahgren, and more have commented on popular streamers leaving YouTube for Twitch. For those unaware, over the past couple of days, some of the biggest YouTube streamers have announced plans to simultaneously broadcast on multiple platforms after their contracts with the Google-owned platform expired.
On September 1, 2024, veteran FPS content creator Benjamin "DrLupo" announced that he would begin livestreaming on Twitch, three years after exclusively streaming on YouTube:
"Thank you, YouTube Gaming for three years, calling the red site home. But tomorrow, we're going multi-plat. Every stream. Every day. Every game."
On the same day, Timothy "TimTheTatman" announced his return to Twitch after three years of broadcasting exclusively on the Red platform.
Ludwig took to X earlier today (September 2, 2024) to comment on the situation, claiming that "every" YouTube streamer "instantly" switches platforms to Twitch the moment their contract expires:
"Feels like every YouTube livestreamer instantly swaps back over to Twitch, or starts multistreaming, the moment their contract ends."
In response, Pokimane stated that while streaming on YouTube "is fun," she believed content creators "miss out" on traffic:
"Streaming on YouTube is fun but you can miss out on the traffic from game directories/metas, and it takes more effort to interact with other streamers, that was my experience, at least!
Meanwhile, Valkyrae stated that both platforms have "many pros and cons" and expressed her desire to "squish" Twitch and YouTube into one:
"There's so many pros and cons to both platforms, I wish I could squish them into one."
"Twitch best chat experience, YouTube best lurk experience" - Squeex, DrLupo, and Pirate Software give their takes on popular YouTube streamers switching to Twitch
Twitch personality Squeex has also chimed in on the situation, explaining which of the major platforms among Twitch, YouTube, and Kick, provides the best experience:
"Twitch best chat experience, YouTube best lurk experience, Kick best slur experience."
According to DrLupo, it "makes sense" for YouTubers to switch platforms to Twitch. Elaborating on the benefits of both platforms, the 37-year-old posted on X:
"Makes sense. Some people like Twitch. Some people prefer YouTube. 1440p and higher bitrate on YouTube. Faster chat and less latency on Twitch. Seems like a no-brainer to provide both to the community. Merging chats for the content creator isn't difficult, either."
Meanwhile, Jason "Pirate Software" voiced his preference for multi-streaming, claiming that it gives the audience "an option":
"I definitely prefer multi-streaming as it gives the audience an option on where they want to watch. Twitch seems to be a way better live experience and YouTube (has) a much better static experience. Different strengths on different platforms.
Furthermore, prominent journalist Rod "Slasher" stated that Twitch and YouTube "see no reason" to offer big deals to streamers. However, he believed there were a "few exceptions" to this.
