The Chicago Sky hired Tyler Marsh as their coach on Saturday. Marsh, who reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal as per ESPN, will be entrusted with leading a team that finished ninth in 2024 with a 14-26 record.

The season was noteworthy for several reasons, including the emergence of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The Sky rookie’s season-ending wrist injury meant the Sky fell out of the postseason picture without their star player.

While Reese was heartbroken by Teresa Weatherspoon’s departure, she took the time on Saturday to welcome her new coach.

The tweet caught the attention of Kiara Marsh, Tyler Marsh’s wife, as she quote-tweeted it:

“Let’s get it.”

The new Chicago Sky coach was previously an assistant coach and head of player development with the Las Vegas Aces. There, he helped coach Becky Hammon lead the team to back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.

After displaying championship pedigree with Las Vegas, Marsh will now be entrusted with building a championship-caliber team around Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and Chennedy Carter.

“Coach Marsh is widely respected for the development of elite players and shares our goal of being a playoff and championship contender every year,” the Sky said in a press release on Saturday.

Tyler Marsh previously praised Angel Reese

While Marsh and Reese will start a working relationship at the beginning of the next season, it seems like the new Sky coach is a big fan of the former LSU standout’s game.

On May 7, he had written on X:

“You really can’t teach AR’s feel for offensive rebounding.”

Marsh made the comment after Reese’s second preseason game with the Sky. Chicago won 101-53 against the New York Liberty as Reese had 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 19 minutes.

That was not all, as Marsh praised Reese on multiple occasions during the season, including on June 23 when he posted:

“Future of the Sky is in good hands. Young, tough & don’t give af about anybody’s opinions other than their own. Gotta respect it.”

This particular post by Tyler Marsh came after Angel Reese led the Sky to an 88-87 win over the Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever. Reese ended the game with 25 points and 16 rebounds.

Marsh's admiration for Reese is obvious, but it remains to be seen if the duo can work together as a team to make the Chicago Sky a title contender in the upcoming season.
